Upinion gives a voice to affected communities, ensuring they have both influence and equal access to information. We are committed to sharing their powerful stories with the world.

Upinion is engaging with thousands of people affected by crisis and displacement, structurally learning about their needs, challenges, and community preferences. We want policies and decisions to be based on what the affected communities say, feel, and want. We want to send powerful messages to those holding the power.

But do the right people hear our messages? We want to increase our circle of influence.

Who are we looking for?

Upinion is looking for a creative and experienced storyteller, who can convey complex insights from the community to the duty bearers that need to act on these insights, and who can show the impact that Upinion is making to the right stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with a deeply engaging writing style and a nose for understanding the ongoing narrative and media landscape with regard to community participation in the fields of humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding aid, human rights, and migration.

Within an overarching communications strategy and guidance from Upinion’s executive board, you will be able to draft and execute your own plan. A proactive attitude and thinking out of the box are needed, as is an intrinsic motivation to understand the DNA of Upinion and the field we are navigating.

Who is Upinion?

Upinion is a social enterprise with a unique mission: to amplify the voices of people in crisis situations around the world. We are engaging structurally with refugees, people in conflict areas, and other marginalised groups through our in-house developed secure and private Digital Engagement Platform (DEP) and bring the insights we gain from this to the decision-making table.

We work across the world, with a focus on MENA, the Sahel region, Sub-Sahara Africa, and the Pacific.

We have a team of 11 deeply committed specialists ranging from developers and researchers to community engagers. We are registered in The Netherlands and have our base in the Hague Humanity Hub, but we facilitate remote work as well. We make sure to meet up through our Team Weeks for strategic planning, problem solving and team bonding tri-annually to stay aligned and close as a team.

Job requirements

You have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a communications role in the field of humanitarian and development aid, migration, and/or human rights.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English. French is a plus.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and proven experience in significantly increasing (social media) engagement and followers for an impact enterprise or NGO. We would love to see your portfolio.
  • Demonstrable strong graphic design skills and familiarity in software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) or Canva.
  • An excellent understanding of the communications and media landscape in relevant fields and the ability to find the right spot for Opinion.
  • Hands-on experience with social media analytics tools.

You are:

  • Highly motivated to convey the voice of the affected community to those who should listen.
  • Able to communicate Opinion’s impact in clear and engaging language.
  • Tech savvy and enthusiastic to help in the development of AI and digital tools
  • Culturally sensitive - able to speak with people from all walks of life.
  • Skills in creating and editing multimedia and audiovisual content is a plus.
