Background:
WWF is a global conservation organization operating in over 100 countries. In Uganda, WWF has programs focusing on forests, freshwater, wildlife, energy and climate. WWF Uganda, in partnership with National Forestry Authority, is implementing a 20-year project aimed at halting degradation of natural forests in the Kagombe – Bugoma Landscape.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with relevant structures around carbon emissions programs/REDD+ programmes
- Develop and popularize a mechanism of registering and monitoring projects contributing to NDC fulfillment
- Support NFA in forest management plans and demarcation
- Support afforestation, reforestation, and regeneration initiatives
- Strengthen collaborative forest management groups
- Develop business cases for nature-based enterprises
- Engage youth and women in climate adaptation interventions
- Support capacity building of partners
- Plan and oversee project budget
- Mainstream pro-people conservation approaches
- Improve organization and program visibility
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Environmental Studies, Wildlife Management, or related discipline
- Masters in relevant field preferred
Experience:
- 5+ years of professional experience in forestry management, NRM, or conservation management
- Experience in Forest Carbon projects and CCB/VCS standard is an advantage
- Expertise in CSO governance, mentoring, group management, and training
- Track record of community-based natural resources management projects
- Engagement with government, private sector, and civil society
