Muteesa I Royal University (MRC) is a private University that was accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE) in 2007. its Main Campus is situated in Kirumba Masaka, with other campuses in Mubende and Mengo Kakeeka. The mission of the MRU is to provide an effective and efficient setting for the development of intellectually dynamic individuals, principled and resource l professionals and practitioners. MRU is seeking to recruit highly motivated, innovative and committed candidates to fill the positions highlighted below:

Public Relations Officer
Reports to: Vice Chancellor
Role definition: To develop and implementation communication strategy and publicize the university events and activities to the Universities stakeholders and to promote the University’s image the public.

Key result areas/responsibilities:

  • Document and outline key components of the communication and promotion strategy to be implemented on quarterly basis
  • Disseminate information about the university’s activities using various channels such as TVs, radios, newspapers, staff emails, etc.
  • Organise and hold press conferences on behalf of the University
  • Develop University branding materials and slogans to create awareness of MRU vision and mission to the public as well as popularizing MRU image
  • Organise corporate social events through partnership
  • Capture videos or photographs, document‘ University events and publicise them through MRU newsletter, website blogs, staff emails, newspapers articles, TV documentaries etc. in line with the communication policy
  • Prepare property reasoned and responses to adverse publicity about MRU programs in line with the promotion and publicity

Competencies

  • Record and document University events at all levels
  • Develop communication materials such as banners, magazines, newsletters, brochures, posters, etc.
  • Establish communication and feedback mechanism to and from all stakeholders
  • Follows closely the deliberations of top management, Council and its
  • Committees and any other relevant organs of MRU .
  • Provides a high quality of documents and publications
  • Communicate upcoming events to staff through the intranet
  • Communicate university achievement to staff and public initiate and develop branding images and forward to management for approval
  • Disseminates information regarding the MRU objectives, policies and decisions, using appropriate communication channels;
  • Organizes and manages the press-conferences, interviews;
  • Develop and implement strategic PR programs to achieve significant increases in brand awareness
  • Develop compelling story angles
  • Cultivate relationships with key business journalists in national and trade publications
  • Pitch stories to both national and total media. Achieve highest visibility for in print, broadcast, TV and online media outlets
  • Write clear and compelling pitch letters, press releases and by-lined articles
    Manage budgets and campaigns’ return on investment (ROI)

Qualification and experience

  • Bachelors degree in mass communication or marketing/branding
  • Five years relevant experience in public relations and communications
  • Strong network with national business and trade media contacts
  • Established relationships with general business, consumer and entertainment trade press/anatyst/blogger communities
  • Proven successes in both traditional and interactive PR channels
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer and PR applications including Google Docs and News Alerts, MS Office Apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
