Background

Stride Development Sacco is one of fast-growing financial institutions in the Rwenzori sub region. The Sacco is located on plot 4-6, Kihika road, Kisanga B cell, Nyamwamba division, Kasese municipality with members drawn from the districts of Kasese, Bunyangabu, Rubirizi, Kabarole, Bundibugyo, Kampala among others. The Sacco is growing and expanding its operations, leading to new openings, and opportunities for people who wish to grow their careers in the financial services sector. The Sacco therefore wishes to recruit competent, hardworking, dependable, and flexible resources, with a clean track record for the role of Sacco Accountant.

Purpose of the Role:

To manage and oversee all financial activities of STRIDE DEVELOPMENT SACCO, ensuring sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and timely reporting to support effective decision-making.

Reports to: SACCO Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Budgeting: Prepare, implement, and monitor annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Accounting: Record, verify, post, and reconcile all financial transactions, including payables, receivables, and general ledger accounts.
  • Cash and Payment Management: Process and approve payments, manage cash flows, and ensure liquidity for SACCO operations.
  • Asset Management: Maintain and update the fixed asset register and manage investment portfolios.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare internal financial reports for management and periodic financial statements for the Board and regulatory authorities.

Compliance and Internal Controls

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the SACCO complies with all legal, regulatory, and tax obligations.
  • Statutory Returns: Prepare and file statutory and tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and monitor internal control systems to safeguard SACCO assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Audit Support: Facilitate both internal and external audits by providing all necessary documentation and explanations.

General Duties

  • System Management: Develop, implement, and maintain efficient accounting and record-keeping systems using appropriate technology.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the key contact for external parties including banks, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Supervision: Supervise and provide support to finance department staff and SACCO branch teams.

Qualifications and Experience

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (B Com), Business Administration, Accounting & Finance, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Professional Accounting Qualification: CPA (U) or ACCA (minimum Level 2 completed or in progress).
  • Added Advantage: A Diploma in Co-operative Management or a Postgraduate qualification in Financial Management will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting or auditing experience.
  • Prior experience in the SACCO sector or other financial institutions is highly desirable.
