JOB DETAILS:

Job Summary:
The USAID/Uganda Biodiversity for Resilience Activity(B4R) provides technical assistance to communities, the government of Uganda, and the private sector, to conserve and manage biodiversity in target ecosystems for lasting environmental and economic sustainability and increased community and household resilience. The Activity works closely with key government agencies including Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and the National Forest Authority (NFA) in four target landscapes of Kidepo Valley National Park area, Murchison Falls National Park area, Budongo Central Forest Reserve and Lake Mburo National Park area.

The Wildlife Program Manager will work closely with the Chief of Party (COP) and Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) to lead and coordinate Wildlife related technical activities for the USAID Uganda Biodiversity for Resilience (B4R) Activity.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties:

1. Provide strategic support and technical guidance to the COP, DCOP and Landscape Leads on wildlife management and contribute to the development and production of timely annual work plans, quarterly progress reports, and other technical deliverables as needed.
2. Serve a B4R’s wildlife expert for wildlife monitoring including planning and conducting of census, species recovery plans, collaring of lions and elephants in close collaboration with UWA
3. Serve as B4R’s GIS and mapping point of contact, working closely with Landscape Leads and Comms and Knowledge Management Specialist
4. Lead B4R HWC related interventions, including training, equipping, operationalizing and monitoring of Community Wildlife Scouts in Mburo, Murchison and Kidepo Landscapes
5. Lead Strategic Approach 2: Support conservancies to be professionally, operationally, and financial sustainable
6. Serve as the Mburo and Queen Elizabeth Landscape Lead to oversee overall activity planning, coordination and implementation in the landscape including direct supervision of the Conservancy Program Officer (Mburo) and the Forestry and Wildlife Officer (Queen Elizabeth).
7. Travel 25% of the time to the Lake Mburo and Queen Elizabeth landscape to ensure compliance, quality and consistency during activity planning and implementation.
8. Support the technical team in preparation of routine client updates and coordination of field visits for Mburo and Queen Elizabeth landscapes.
9. Liaise with the technical, finance and compliance teams in Kampala as needed to ensure timely and accurate processing of all landscape related information from selected grant awardees.
10. Ensure that lessons learned, and best practices are documented and shared with the project monitoring team to enhance project outcomes and alignment with beneficiaries and partner priorities.
11. Manage relationships with NFA, UWA, Local governments, partner CBOs, B4R private sector partners, and other stakeholders
12. Supervise two field coordinators
13. Other duties as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Required Education & Experience

1. Master’s degree and 6 years related work experience in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management, land use, natural resources management, environmental science; or bachelor’s degree in natural resources management or another related field and at least 10 years of experience in field-level activity implementation, including engaging district government officials and community-based organizations.
2. A minimum of 10 years’ experience in leading and implementing conservation
3. Strong project planning, leadership, and management skilld.
4. Demonstrated experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning, communications and outreach and project.

Skills & Abilities
1. 10 years of proven leadership of mid-to large-sized international donor programs with strong skills in strategic planning, management, supervision.
2. Excellent management, communication, and organization
3. Basic computer skills (word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases).
4. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, as well as the ability to foster professional
5. High standards of integrity, professionalism, and
6. Able to work independently and effectively in a team
7. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a proactive
8. Ability to multi-task and work to meet tight
9. Demonstrated skills in building, mobilizing, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
10. Demonstrated skills and proven ability to develop, articulate, and implement a strategic vision for the project.
11. Excellent written and oral communication skills, fluency in
12. Knowledge of and experience ensuring compliance with USAID regulations and requirements, is preferred
