The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks. The company sales and distributes electricity in Uganda as per ERA License issued on 31 December 2024 covering over 135 political districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

A CAD Officer is responsible for preparing accurate architectural and construction drawings using Computer- Aided Design(CAD) software.

The role involves supporting design, planning, and construction processes while ensuring compliance with building standards and project specifications.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Prepare and update architectural drawings and construction drawings (plans, elevations, sections, details) using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Interpret sketches, designs, and specifications from architects/engineers.
  • Prepare cost estimates for the preliminary designs.
  • Produce working drawings for civil construction works.
  • Ensure drawings meet project specifications and standards.
  • Review of drawings from third parties for accuracy.
  • Ensure drawings comply with local building regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and project team.
  • Maintain organized drawing records and project documentation.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Academics' Degree in Civil Engineering or Building Economics.
  • Diploma in Architecture is an added advantage.
  • Membership with a professional body (like ISU, UIPE, and related Engineering disciplines) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and any other CAD software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and design standards.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic knowledge of structural and building services drawings.

Experience needed

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CAD Technician or practitioner, preferably in electrical, building or civil discipline and environment/engineering projects.

  • Working Environment: Office-based with occasional visits to project sites.
  • Requires extended periods of working on computer systems.
  • Expected Outputs: Accurate technical drawing concepts to support contractor sourcing. Well maintained as built drawings data base for projects. Drawings that comply with project standards and coordinate with other disciplines. Proper CAD file management to support construction and cost estimation.
