Background

Makerere University School of Public Health, in collaboration with Jhpiego, is implementing the Scaling the Optimal Use of Multiple ACTs to Prevent Antimalarial Drug Resistance (STOP-AMDR) Project. The project will conduct household and health-facility data collection in Buikwe and Busia districts to generate evidence for the introduction and scale-up of Multiple First-line Therapies in Uganda.

Responsibilities

To map and list households and collect data from households, health facilities and antimalarial medicine service-delivery points in selected enumeration areas.

Attend study-team training and pretesting activities.

Work with local leaders to support project implementation in assigned enumeration areas.

Work with health-facility leaders to support data collection in selected facilities.

Map and list households in sampled enumeration areas.

Administer informed consent and collect data from households and health facilities in accordance with the study protocol.

Respond to participants’ questions about the study or refer them to the Field Supervisor when necessary.

Participate in data validation and other quality-assurance processes.

Perform other duties assigned by the Field Supervisor, Project Coordinator or investigators.

Qualifications and Desirable Qualities

A minimum of a diploma. A bachelor’s degree is desirable.

Proficiency in spoken and written English and either Luganda or Lusamia.

Experience using mobile-assisted data-collection applications, particularly KoboCollect.

Experience mapping and listing households in communities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to follow study procedures and guidelines reliably.

Ability and willingness to reside in the assigned study district throughout the data-collection period.

Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines with minimal supervision.

A valid certificate in Human Subjects Protection.

Previous data-collection experience in the selected district or region is desirable.
