On behalf of our client, an award-winning social business in the sanitation and hygiene sector, we are looking for a competent, skilled and experienced Leader, Marketing Communications- Africa to work in Africa (Regional Role).

About Our Client

Our client is an award-winning social business that empowers people to live a better life through innovative sanitation and hygiene solutions. Balancing sharp commercial acumen with brand and creative flair, the role holder will scale regional operations to take the business to the next level and achieve operational breakeven.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Growth, Trade Marketing & Sales Support

  • Partner closely with regional commercial/sales leads to support revenue targets, market share growth and the journey toward operational breakeven and sustainable profitability.
  • Design and execute 360-degree trade marketing toolkits and route-to-market activations.
  • Equip distributors, hardware retailers, last-mile entrepreneurs, and masons/installers to accelerate sell-through.
  • Oversee the end-to-end demand creation engine, converting brand awareness into localized, high-converting lead generation pipelines targeting B2C consumers, B2B hardware networks, and B2G institutional buyers.
  • Lead the Customer Experience Center, leveraging customer insights and digital touchpoints to optimize conversion rates, customer retention, and brand advocacy.

Brand Building & Thought Leadership

  • Transform the brand into a beloved, aspirational household brand across urban, peri-urban, and rural African markets.
  • Own the regional narrative at the intersection of business, public health, climate resilience, and gender equity (SDG 6.2).
  • Position the organization as a thought leader across high-level policy forums, summits, and media.
  • Serve as strategic advisor and ghostwriter for executive regional leaders, crafting speeches, op-eds, policy briefs, and keynote presentations.
  • Lead proactive media relations, reputation management, and high-impact PR campaigns across key African regions.

Ecosystem Collaborations & Partnerships

  • Drive innovative co-branding and joint advocacy initiatives with development partners, multilateral agencies, NGOs, and microfinance institutions to expand product distribution and impact scale.
  • Forge groundbreaking alliances with telecom, FMCG, and financial services firms to build non-traditional sales and awareness channels.

Intrapreneurial Leadership & Agility

  • Operate with extreme agility, resourcefulness and a test-and-learn ethos. Build, iterate, and scale marketing tactics rapidly in complex, emerging markets.
  • Build, mentor and inspire a high-performing, agile regional marketing unit spanning multi-country operations.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between regional African dynamics and Global Marketing Communications, elevating African success stories onto global stages.
  • Manage a marketing assistant based in Senegal.

Qualification and Experience

Experience

  • Direct experience working alongside sales organizations or managing commercial P&L goals.
  • Demonstrated success launching, scaling and commercializing brands across diverse African markets, with a deep understanding of mass-market consumer behavior, trade channels and informal distribution networks.
  • Experience navigating unit economics and executing lean, high-ROI marketing strategies that drive profitability and scale preferred.
  • Proven capacity to negotiate and co-create high-value campaigns with global NGOs, government bodies, institutional donors and private-sector players.

Core Competencies
