About the Response Innovation Lab (RIL) and U-RIL:The Response Innovation Lab (RIL) is a global network of field-based humanitarian platforms dedicated to strengthening innovation and learning ecosystems in crisis settings. It provides a collaborative platform for humanitarian, development, and private-sector actors to test, adapt, and scale solutions that improve outcomes for affected populations.In Uganda, the Uganda Response Innovation Lab (U-RIL)—hosted by Save the Children International—serves as the national platform within this global network. U-RIL brings together diverse actors including government agencies, UN organisations, NGOs, refugee-led and community-based organisations, the private sector, and academia. Its mandate is to foster collaboration, generate and share evidence, and promote innovation that strengthens Uganda’s refugee response. Through this role, U-RIL contributes to thought leadership, supports nexus programming, and ensures that policy and practice are informed by evidence and innovation.

About the Learning Hub:The Learning Hub (LH) is an innovative initiative of U-RIL that embeds cross-sectoral learning directly into Uganda’s refugee response. Conceived as a public good, the LH ensures that existing evidence—ranging from resources, data, and lived experiences—is systematically gathered, synthesised, and disseminated. Its purpose is to make evidence accessible and actionable for refugee response actors, helping them consolidate programming, improve decision-making, and drive systemic change in both policy and practice. The Learning Hub also plays a critical role in the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI), a multi-consortia effort, funded by the Royal Danish Embassy, led by Save the Children and the Danish Refugee Council. Within URRI, U-RIL leverages the Learning Hub to strengthen the evidence and learning agenda across consortia.

THE ROLE PURPOSE;

• The candidate will be responsible for coordinating learning activities led by U-RIL.
• He/she will work closely with the Learning Hub team to lead knowledge management efforts include support to collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation and management of data and resources, as well as coordination of learning activities across the two URRI consortia, thus contributing to the development of reports, mappings, digital solutions, events and publications.
• The ideal candidate is a team player who works well independently too. He/she will join our small but dynamic team under the Response Innovation Lab and be hosted at the Country Office of Save the Children International.
• In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Coordinate and contribute to the planning and implementation of evidence generation and learning activities, including studies, mappings, case studies, documentation exercises, learning reviews, and assessments.
• Support the design of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, data collection plans, and learning approaches in collaboration with the U-RIL team and consultants.
• Support the development and quality assurance of data collection tools, including interview guides, questionnaires, surveys, observation tools, and online forms.
• Ensure research and evidence generation activities adhere to ethical standards, safeguarding requirements, and quality assurance processes.
• Support the design and implementation of a learning log in coordination with the URRI secretariat and Consortia MEAL teams
• Support periodic reflection sessions, after-action reviews, pause-and-reflect meetings, and learning workshops to promote evidence-informed decision-making.
• Coordinate the management, maintenance, and continuous updating of Learning Hub databases, including Settlement-Level Actor Mapping (SLAM), thematic actor mappings, partner directories, and evidence repositories.
• Develop and maintain contact databases, stakeholder directories, and knowledge repositories to support evidence generation and dissemination.
• Coordinate evidence collection and documentation activities across both URRI consortia, working closely with consortium partners, technical leads, consultants, and external stakeholders at district and national level
• Serve as a focal point for coordinating learning activities with implementing partners, research institutions, government counterparts, UN agencies, private sector actors, and refugee-led organisations
• Support the planning and delivery of learning events, workshops, webinars, dissemination meetings, and other knowledge-sharing platforms
• Coordinate administrative and operational support required for the effective functioning of the Learning Hub, in collaboration with the U-RIL Programme Manager.
• Prepare procurement requests and coordinate with Save the Children procurement and operations teams to ensure timely acquisition of goods and services.
• Coordinate the collection, compilation, analysis, and reporting of Learning Hub output and outcome indicators in line with project workplans and donor reporting requirements.
• Coordinate the collection and synthesis of partner feedback to inform adaptive management and continuous improvement of Learning Hub activities.
• Ensure that activities are conducted in accordance with organisational quality standards, safeguarding policies, and ethical research principles.
• To succeed in this role, you will need to have;
• At least a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Development studies, Economics, Statistics, Public policy, international development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Research methods, Information management, or another relevant field.
• At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in research, evidence generation, knowledge management, project coordination, monitoring and evaluation, or learning within humanitarian or development programmes
• Experience planning and coordinating workshops, learning events, consultations, and dissemination activities.
• Solid understanding of ethical requirements, including consent
• Flexibility for regular travel to the refugee hosting districts
• Curiosity for management concepts, innovative approaches and new technologies
• Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, data management and MEAL principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information into clear, actionable insights
• Excellent project coordination, planning, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills.
• Sector specific experience related to climate smart agriculture, market systems development, localization, resilience and self-reliance
• Experience of photography/videography and content capture
