Savimaxx Limited Uganda is a multi-disciplinary professional consulting firm with demonstratable experience in successful management and implementation of projects. We have submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) for an upcoming consultancy assignment for a macroeconomic study for a petrochemical-based industrial park. We are looking for a short-term independent Petroleum Industrial Chemist/Consultant with a Ph. D and at least five years’ experience or Master’s Degree with at least 10 years experience in undertaking macroeconomic studies for the establishment of greenfield petrochemical industrial parks in sub-saharan Africa.
It is envisaged that the park will have a refinery, fertilizer plant, polymer plant, synthetic fibre plant, methanol production, plastics plant, pharmaceuticals etc. The park will be situated on 29 km 2 of land. Additionally, it will have support infrastructure like a water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, electric power plant, storage tanks, a residential housing estate zone, warehouses, an international airport, upstream crude oil export hub, access roads and a Free Trade Zone.
Main Task:
The main task of the Petroleum Industrial Chemist/Consultant is to provide crucial technical data and analysis that underpins financial modeling, market assessment, and environmental impact studies. Her/his main role will be to review the feedstock and characterisation by analysing the chemical composition and quality of the proposed crude oil or natural gas feedstocks to determine their suitability and the potential yield of various petrochemicals. Additionally, S/he will provide data on the properties of the feedstock, which directly influences refining processes, product slate and operational costs, all vital components of economic models. S/he will identify potential value-added products that can be produced within the park's planned facilities and determine product qualities and ensure they meet market specifications and regulatory requirements, supporting the market analysis for demand volume and pricing. Will collaborate with engineers and economists on the consultancy team to assess and recommend optimal, cost-effective and environmentally compliant technologies for converting raw materials into high-value products (e.g., olefins, aromatics, polymers). The consult will estimate Capital and Operational Costs (CapEx/OpEx) by calculating costs related to process equipment, technology, and facility operations. This data is essential for the macroeconomic team to build accurate financial models, cash flows, and profitability forecasts.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be a registered professional chemist and a member of a competent professional institution/association.
- Must have very strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities to work in a multi-disciplinary team and be ready to work in a diverse multicultural environment.
- Must have very good writing skills, editing of thematic reports, presentations skills and reporting skills.
- Must be fluent in oral, listening and written English.
