Job Purpose
To support the Protection and Communication Engineering team in maintaining, testing, and learning the design principles of protection, control, and communication schemes used in the electrical distribution network. The trainee will gain hands-on exposure to protection systems, control equipment, and voltage regulation technologies, contributing to the safe and reliable operation of the network.
Impact
The trainee assists in ensuring the safety and reliability of the power system by participating in inspections, testing, and maintenance of protection equipment under guidance. Through this program, the trainee builds foundational knowledge in power system protection and prepares for future technical roles.
Key Result Areas
- Support routine checks and testing of protection relays and voltage regulation equipment.
- Observe and assist in the configuration and basic troubleshooting of protection devices.
- Learn how to read and interpret protection and control schematics.
- Assist in drafting or updating simple protection diagrams under supervision.
- Participate in the setup and commissioning of basic protection schemes.
- Help document test results and commissioning data.
- Join field teams during scheduled maintenance of protection and control equipment.
- Support in preparing maintenance tools and completing checklists.
- Follow all safety procedures during site visits and hands-on tasks.
- Attend safety trainings and actively participate in safety briefings.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams such as Planning and Systems Control during site visits or data collection activities.
- Learn how protection and communication data integrates with overall network performance.
- Maintain training logs and submit weekly reports detailing lessons learned, activities participated in, and observations made.
- Assist in updating equipment records and data logs.

Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Must have graduated within the last three (3) years from a recognized institution
Experience
- No professional experience required.

- Willingness to learn and work in both office and field environments.
- Good analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Good communication and team collaboration skills.
