  • Uganda Cares (AHF-UC) which is collaboration between the Uganda Ministry of Health and AIDS Healthcare Foundation (U.S.A) to provide tree HIV/AIDS services; including antiretroviral therapy in resource constrained settings, AHF
  • Uganda Cares to date operates III districts including; Masaka, Kampala, Rakai, Kyotera, Lyantonde, Soroti, Lwengo, Luweero, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, Kalangala, Masindi, Amuria, Butambala, Gomba, Hoima, Nakasongora, Nakaseke, Buikwe, Ntungamo, Tororo, Busia and supports 54 clinic sites country wide, The organization now seeks to hire highly competent, dynamic and experienced person to till the positions of;

Medical Officer

This position is based at Gombe Hospital and reports to the Regional Medical Director» Central. The holder of the position performs among others the following duties;

  • Sees patients both outpatients and in-patients setting (both new and follow-up) as required
  • Reviews history and examines patient to determine general physical condition 
  • Requests or performs various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
  • Responsible for the timely updates of patient charts. New patients require complete History & Physical examination with generation of a problem list and course of action. Follow up patients require generation of progress notes and additions, if applicable, to the problem list.
  • Analyze reports and findings of tests and examination, and diagnoses condition.
  • Completes and documents treatment plan.
  • Provides the clients with adequate information related to the diagnosis, the condition being treated and course of action
  • Advices patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods tor prevention of disease.
  • Reports deaths and outbreaks of contagious diseases to the Medical officer in-charge/ medical director and/or relevant governmental authorities
  • Completes medical records and referrals for clients in need of hospital admission, specialized treatment and transfers to other health facilities
  • Undertakes to gather additional information concerning the client and family members to foster a family based approach to patient care
  • Participates in training activities, mentorship and supervision of other provides, volunteers and interns at the facility
  • In conjunction with other team members participates in clinical team and quality of care meetings and interventions
  • Participates as a visiting clinician to support HIV services at lower level and outreach settings
  • Participates in health unit CMEs, staff and other relevant meetings
  • Will also perform other duties that will be delegated by his/her immediate supervisor

Academic Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MBChB) or its equivalent from a recognized university/institution must be registered with the medical and dental practitioner’s council.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year's prior experience treating HIV positive patients
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors

Specific Skills:

  • Professional computer skills, including MS Word, Excel. Internet and Email
  • Ability to read and interpret documents pertaining to packaging, supplies, shipment and deliveries.
  • Ability to communicate well with vendors and other relevant individuals.
