About the Project

This position is part of a project funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) aimed at supporting sustainable agricultural development in Uganda. The project focuses on enhancing the productivity and sustainability of vanilla cultivation among smallholder farmers.

Position Overview

The Accountant is responsible for the overall financial management, accounting, and financial reporting of the projects. The position ensures compliance with donor rules, organizational procedures, and national regulations, and supports the management team in budget control and financial planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper and timely recording of all financial transactions in the accounting system.
  • Manage general accounting, cashbook, bank books, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for management and donors.
  • Ensure budget monitoring and expenditure tracking per project and per budget line.
  • Prepare and verify payment requests, contracts, and supporting documents.
  • Perform bank and cash reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations (AICS, EU, etc.) and internal procedures.
  • Support preparation for audits and financial controls by donors and external auditors.
  • Support procurement and administrative procedures from a financial compliance perspective.
  • Ensure proper archiving of financial and administrative documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management, preferably in NGOs or international projects.
  • Proven experience in managing donor-funded projects (AICS, EU, UN or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Excellent command of Excel and accounting software.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Assets (Preferred)

  • Previous experience with AICS-funded projects.
  • Experience in multi-project financial management.
  • Knowledge of procurement and administrative procedures.
