Description

Bank of India Uganda is hiring a Banking Assistant – IT to assist in installing software, assisting other staff members in resolving IT issues, preparing notes for review of users in system, and liaising with vendors/Data Center for quick resolution of issues with the core banking system and other software.

Job Ref: BOIUL/HR/BAIT/13/02/17

Reports to: Banking Officer – IT

Duty Station: Head Office, Kampala

Grade: Banking Assistant

Job Responsibilities

  • Testing compatibility of new programs with existing programs.
  • Provide support for end-user devices, operating systems, printers, mobile devices, and standard business applications.
  • Assist users with password resets, account unlocks, access requests, and other application support.
  • Support remote and on-site troubleshooting using approved tools and procedures.
  • Monitor system alerts, outages, and performance issues, escalating critical incidents promptly.
  • Assist in preparing MIS and data reports, service level compliance, and incident trends.
  • Support problem management efforts by identifying recurring issues and contributing to root cause analysis.
  • Participate in IT projects, system upgrades, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Stay updated with new technologies and best practices relevant to end-user support.
  • Implement security standards in the Bank.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Confirm program objectives and specifications by testing new programs and comparing programs with established standards.
  • Evaluate vendor-supplied software by studying user objectives and testing software compatibility with existing hardware and programs.
  • Place software into production by loading software and hardware into computers and entering necessary commands.
  • Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and banking policies and guidelines in IT functions.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor as per the needs of the business.

Person Specification

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Computing, or any other technology-related field.

Experience

Two (2) years working experience in a Bank/Financial Institution is a MUST in the Information Technology field.

Technical Competences

  • Up-to-date knowledge of methodologies and trends in both business and IT or IT security.
  • Suitable basic knowledge in IT information security is a must.

Behavioural Competences

  • Highly organized person with the ability to multitask with ease.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Integrity.
  • Team player.
  • Emotional intelligence skills.

Physical Demand of the Job

The job requires long sitting hours during various system reviews.

Age

Preferably below 40 years. However, Management reserves the right to determine the age criteria even below/above 40 years depending on experience and qualifications.
