Job Overview

The CEO will provide overall strategic leadership, drive operational excellence, and ensure the sustainable growth and profitability of ChapChap Africa. This role entails full responsibility for the company’s direction, encompassing finance, operations, product development, technology, and regulatory compliance. The CEO will be pivotal in scaling the business, strengthening its digital platforms, expanding market presence, and building a high-performing organization aligned with our mission of financial inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Growth

  • Develop and execute the company’s strategic plan to achieve revenue targets, market expansion, and operational excellence.
  • Identify new opportunities in fintech, including untapped customer segments, products, and strategic partnerships.
  • Act as the primary representative to investors, regulators, banking partners, and industry stakeholders.

2. Technology, Product & Innovation

  • Provide executive oversight for technology strategy, product roadmap, and innovation initiatives.
  • Ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and user-centric digital financial products.
  • Promote the adoption of advanced technologies, including cloud infrastructure, APIs, data analytics, and AI/ML, to enhance competitiveness.
  • Oversee cybersecurity, data privacy, and technology compliance with financial regulations.

3. Operations & Financial Management

  • Lead day-to-day operations with emphasis on efficiency, cost optimization, and risk management.
  • Manage budgeting, financial forecasting, reporting, and profitability goals.
  • Ensure robust internal controls, smooth payment processing, and adherence to regulatory standards.

4. Sales, Marketing & Customer Growth

  • Strengthen relationships with existing clients and partners while expanding the customer base.
  • Develop and implement digital sales and marketing strategies to increase product adoption.
  • Monitor market trends, customer feedback, and competitive activity to adapt commercial approaches.

5. Compliance, Risk & Governance

  • Ensure full compliance with Bank of Uganda regulations, national laws, and corporate governance standards.
  • Implement comprehensive risk management frameworks covering operational, financial, and technological risks.
  • Promote a strong culture of ethics, accountability, and regulatory adherence.

6. People & Performance Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing leadership team and staff.
  • Establish KPIs, performance management systems, and accountability structures across the organization.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, customer focus, and operational discipline.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Technology, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, including at least 5 years in an executive role (CEO, GM, COO, CTO, or Head of Product) within fintech, digital payments, or a technology-driven organization.
  • Strong background in technology and innovation, with hands-on experience leading digital platforms, product development, cybersecurity, and scalable fintech solutions.
  • Proven track record in strategic leadership, financial management, scaling operations, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience with financial services regulation, ideally within digital finance, banking, or mobile money.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive growth, innovation, and market expansion.
  • Entrepreneurial, agile, and results-driven, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Revenue and profit growth from fintech products and services.
  • User adoption and active usage rates of digital financial solutions.
  • Platform reliability, security, and product innovation milestones.
  • Market share growth and customer acquisition/retention metrics.
