Objectives & Responsibilities

  • Assess existing credit risk policies, provisioning, waivers, and write-off frameworks, against best practices, identifying gaps
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and provide guidance on regulatory compliance and portfolio management
  • Review and optimize credit and collections processes, ensure operational efficiency in disbursements, credit management and collections and identify gaps
  • Assess and mitigate against fraudulent practices within Credit Operations, data and technology team (processes)
  • Monitor trends and key performance indicators (KPIs) within digital lending workflows to identify and address bottlenecks
  • Conduct regular performance reviews of the lending portfolio, including metrics such as repayment rates, delinquency trends, and portfolio yield
  • Conduct competitive analysis, identify market gaps, and provide insights to inform credit product development
  • Collaborate with Senior Credit Risk Consultant to support improvements to credit operations, risk management, and collections
  • Join the credit committee and offer insights based on weekly performance reviews to enhance the overall loan book performance
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and reporting for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Review underwriting and loan origination risk management framework, identify areas for improvements and provide recommendations that align with business objectives and risk tolerance
  • Ensure credit and collections processes are synchronized

Deliverables

  • Comprehensive gap report of existing credit processes from origination to collections
  • An updated credit policy with underwriting and portfolio management guidelines
  • Risk mitigation strategy designed and integrated into credit processes to support portfolio quality
  • Recommendations provided for improved credit scoring models, risk management strategies, and collections processes based on data analysis
  • Training materials developed and sessions conducted for internal teams on enhanced credit operations and risk management processes
  • Guide the implementation of the updated policies and recommendations across the relevant credit teams
  • Success in this role will be measured by improvements in portfolio performance metrics (e.g., reduction in PAR 30+, increase in collections efficiency, and overall loan book growth)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Business or a related field
  • At least 7 years of managing credit operations and credit risk for lending institutions
  • Expert knowledge of credit underwriting, loan servicing, and risk management processes
  • Strong understanding of credit-decisioning models and credit process automation
  • Prior experience in leadership roles in credit operations and credit risk management
  • Excellent communication, analytical and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve project objective
  • Knowledge of financial regulations in the lending and financial services sectors
  • Has practical experience working for bank, SME lender and/or digital lender
  • Track record of optimizing loan book performance through credit policy refinements and risk management strategies
