SEB Engineering – Draftsman Requirement
A Design Draftsman in a firm focused on manufacturing, engineering, education, and consultancy in the welding and fabrication industry plays a crucial role in translating concepts into technical drawings and blueprints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Drawing & Drafting
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for welding and fabrication projects.
- Prepare blueprints, schematics, and technical illustrations for metal structures, machinery, and components.
- Ensure drawings comply with engineering standards, welding codes (AWS, ISO), and fabrication best practices.
- Collaboration with Engineers & Fabricators
- Work closely with engineers and production teams to develop accurate and practical designs.
- Interpret specifications from engineers and convert them into fabrication-ready drawings.
- Communicate design intent to welders, fabricators, and workshop technicians.
- Product & Component Design
- Design metal structures, industrial machinery, piping systems, and welding jigs/fixtures.
- Modify and improve existing designs to enhance efficiency, reduce material waste, and optimize welding processes.
- Develop prototypes and assist in testing new designs.
- Material & Process Selection
- Specify materials (metals, alloys) and welding processes in design drawings.
- Consider welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding in design requirements.
- Ensure designs minimize distortion, stress concentration, and welding defects.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain an organized library of design documents, CAD files, and revision histories.
- Ensure designs adhere to industry regulations (ISO, ASME, AWS, OSHA).
- Prepare technical documentation, fabrication guides, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Training & Education Support
- Assist in developing training materials, welding guides, and educational resources.
- Support educational programs by creating illustrative diagrams for welding courses.
- Train junior drafters and technicians on CAD software and industry standards.
- Quality Control & Design Optimization
- Conduct design reviews to identify and correct potential issues before fabrication.
- Improve drawings to reduce production errors, costs, and rework.
- Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure precision and compliance.
- Research & Development (R&D)
- Stay updated on welding technologies, fabrication trends, and CAD software advancements.
- Participate in product development and process improvement initiatives.
- Experiment with new materials, welding techniques, and structural designs.
- Site & Workshop Coordination
- Visit fabrication workshops or construction sites to verify drawing accuracy.
- Provide onsite support to interpret technical drawings.
- Assist in resolving design challenges during welding and assembly.
- Software & Tools Proficiency
- Use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo Parametric Design, Inventor, Tekla Structures, or other CAD software for drafting.
- Work with CNC programming.
