CONTEXT AND MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

At the Children’s Surgical Hospital in Entebbe, this commitment translates into continuous investment in staff training and capacity building, with the goal of strengthening clinical, managerial, and organizational competencies in a sustainable and long-term perspective.
Within this framework, the role of the Training Officer / Training Specialist is strategic: this position will ensure the coordination and operational support of all training activities, playing a key role in creating a structured, high-quality learning environment that supports the professional development of staff and the consolidation of internal expertise within the hospital.
This role will act as a liaison between the Human Resources Department, the Training Unit and various clinical and non-healthcare departments, University partners and other external stakeholders.
The position sought will also contribute to the planning, monitoring and evaluation of training activities, both internally and through external providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support all Department Heads in identifying the training needs of their staff and assisting in the macro-design of the content and expected outputs of the training courses.
- Support in the planning of and prepare, maintain and manage a calendar of training courses to ensure adequate coverage of training needs and maintain high quality standards, relying on carefully selected external training providers or evaluating the possibility of in-house delivery of training.
- Organize and coordinate the logistics and administrative activities needed for learning activities such as distribution of materials, equipment requests, transport arrangements, obtaining the material approval of other partners, etc.
- Manage all training-related documentation (e.g., attendance sheets, logbooks, green hands, MoUs). Ensure proper archiving and tracking of participant data.
- Support official communication within the CSH and with external partners.
- Work closely with the designated training area leads, both for health and non-health topics, ensuring alignment and collaboration across all internal and external training activities.
- Set up and maintain tools for training evaluation (satisfaction surveys, pre- and post-training assessments, feedback from participants etc.) and report problems, success and constraints.
- Contribute to the monitoring and analysis of training results, preparing reports and dashboards as required. Manage and maintain training databases for data collection.
- Coordinate with the Grant Management Department to ensure that all relevant indicators related to training activities are properly tracked and reported.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- University degree in Human Resources, Education, Social Sciences, or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in training, HR development, or education program support. Prior experience in the health sector will be regarded as an advantage.
- Proven experience in organizing training events and managing learning administration.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work cross-functionally with clinical and non-clinical teams.
- Experience in data management, reporting, and working with training indicators.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Contract of employment: Fixed-term (6 months) with possibility of renewal;
- Social benefits: GPA, National Social Insurance, Health Insurance, Housing and Transport allowance
- Leaves: 21 paid leave days and additional leave types
- Starting date: as soon as possible.
- Salary range: from 2,000,000.0 UGX to 2,500,000.0 UGX, to be evaluated based on the experience of the candidate.
