Background information about the job or company:
To supervise all activities that take place in the Horticulture section, by providing administrative support to the superintendent in order to achieve the set targets within the anticipated time and budgeted costs.
Responsibilities or duties:
- Mark employees’ daily attendance sheets both in the morning and afternoon in order to ascertain their attendance throughout the whole working day.
- Following up all cases of absenteeism among the subordinate staff to find out the reasons for their occurrence and take appropriate remedies to curb them.
- Reporting extreme cases of absenteeism to the section superintendent for quick remedial action.
- Handle and settle grievances and complaints among subordinate staff in work related issues.
- Supervise employees' overtime work and hand in computations for their payment as required.
- Protect company property in the section.
- Prepare and implement a comprehensive plan of vegetable and fruit cultivation in the section gardens.
- Stock the section store with the necessary vegetable and fruit seeds, fertilizers and protection chemicals.
- Research, find out and advise management on new, quick yielding, and disease resistant fruit and vegetable varieties.
- Identify and allocate specific job tasks to subordinate staff daily.
- Provide the weeders with all the necessary tools and equipment needed to perform the job tasks allocated to them.
- Supervise and constantly monitor the work progress and advise weeders on the necessary changes or additions.
- Monitor and emphasize proper resource utilization by the subordinates in order to minimize losses and maximize profits.
- Prepare and submit periodical reports about all activities in the section to the superintendent.
- Organizing and chairing periodical meetings in the section to update management on the trend of work in the section.
- Making and supplying information bulletins about the section as and when required.
- Adhere to and enforce company safety, health and environment regulations in place among subordinates in order to ensure good housekeeping and maintain an accident free working environment.
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned or delegated by the Horticulture Superintendent/ Management from time to time.
Qualifications or requirements:
- Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Science or a related field from a reputable tertiary institution.
Experience needed:
A minimum of two (2) years hands-on experience, as a Supervisor is required mostly drawn in Horticulture with basic supervisory training.
Any other provided details:
In-depth knowledge in preparation of fruit and vegetable gardens, good skills in plant propagation and protection, good report writing skills, good supervisory skills, good training and teaching skills, good communication and interpersonal skills.
