Job Summary
The Junior accountant will support the Finance Department by ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, timely financial reporting, and compliance with applicable accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements. The role contributes to effective financial management, accountability, and transparency in support of the Bank’s mandate.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, including journals, ledgers, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and applicable regulations.
- Ensure timely posting and reconciliation of all financial transactions.
Accounts Management
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing, payment verification, and customer account reconciliation.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and support follow-up actions to ensure timely collections.
- Reconcile bank accounts, loan accounts, and other balance sheet items on a regular basis.
Budgeting and Financial Analysis
- Support the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts.
- Assist with variance analysis and provide explanations for significant deviations.
- Support financial data analysis to aid management decision-making.
Compliance and Controls
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures, and internal control systems.
- Support compliance with statutory requirements, including tax, regulatory, and reporting obligations.
- Assist in strengthening financial controls and risk mitigation measures.
Audit Support
- Assist during internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to audit queries.
- Support implementation and tracking of audit recommendations.
Other Responsibilities
- Support finance-related projects and system improvements as assigned.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Finance Manager in line with the role.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Progress toward a professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
Experience
- At least 2–3 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution, development finance institution, or regulated environment.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (IFRS).
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong ethical standards, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills
