Role Context

The Lecturer in Mathematics delivers high-quality instruction in mathematics courses, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and quantitative literacy among students. Reports to the Head of Department, Science Education.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree or Masters Degree with 3 years teaching experience, particularly in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching undergraduate mathematics courses.

Personal Competencies

  • Passion for teaching mathematics and inspiring students to appreciate its beauty, logic, and real-world applications.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts clearly and engagingly to diverse learners.
  • Commitment to Christian ethical principles, promoting integrity, diligence, and service in academic pursuits.
  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in mathematical software/tools like Python.
  • Adaptability to incorporate innovative teaching methods, like technology-enhanced learning and problem-based approaches.
  • Dedication to student mentorship, inclusivity, and supporting underrepresented groups in STEM fields.

Additional Notes

Foreign applicants will be responsible for their own work permit and related fees.

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, and problem-solving sessions for undergraduate mathematics courses.
  • Develop course syllabi, teaching materials, assignments, quizzes, and examinations to departmental standards.
  • Assess student performance through grading exams, projects, and participation; provide constructive feedback to support learning.
  • Hold regular office hours, offer academic advising, and mentor students on mathematical concepts and career pathways.
  • Integrate ethical reasoning, real-world applications, and entrepreneurial problem-solving into teaching to align with university vision.
  • Participate in curriculum review and development to ensure relevance to labor market needs and emerging fields.
  • Engage in departmental service, such as committee work, exam moderation, or contributing to program assessment.
  • Stay current with developments in mathematics education and incorporate innovative pedagogies, including use of technology.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment that upholds Christian values of respect, compassion, and excellence.
