Job Purpose

The holder of the position is charged with the responsibility of Credit and Lending including overseeing, definition of risk appetite, development, and implementation of risk assessments for new products, pricing of new and existing products, setting credit strategy and lending decisions in the personal Banking segment. The job holder is also responsible for timely disbursement of approved loans and plays a key role in ensuring the efficiency and accuracy of processing Monitor progressive disbursement to ensure the loan is fully disbursed as per SLAs

Key Responsibilities

  • Review of all proposals (new & existing) by the Credit analysts in adherence with Equity’s internal Credit Policies, Risk Management procedures and other required regulations including BOU, FIA, and funders.
  • Provide support in structuring proposals to minimize risk and ensure full repayment. Timely response review of proposals and excesses within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Review and adherence to service level agreement between commercial and credit annually in order to maintain service delivery in line with/ ahead of competition.
  • Train and coach the Branch staff, Credit/Relationship Managers, Credit analysts in Credit assessment/ analysis, deal structure, policies, and procedures. Conduct road shows on credit underwriting criteria for staff in the Credit value chain to uphold quality of loans booked.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of financial statements and assessment of credit requests, including new requests, changed requests, refinancing and annual due diligence
  • Own the Credit Risk Management framework, including the development and maintenance of the credit risk policy, risk appetite statements and Key Risk Indicators.
  • Define credit risk portfolio management requirements and own the associated monitoring, control and forecasting requirements.
  • Develop and produce analytics and reporting on credit risk to ensure the bank is operating within risk appetite.
  • Regularly enhance a credit risk validation framework including validation guidelines, policies, and processes.
  • Bank Portfolio Management and oversight of first line Consumer Credit book.
  • Contribute the setup of the overall Risk function.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the credit analysts within the Credit Risk unit in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures. Coach, mentor and develop new staff including overseeing and onboarding new employees and providing career development planning and opportunities.
  • Provide advice to all stakeholders in the Bank with respect to Credit risk management, policies, practices, and standards.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • University degree in Economics, Statistics, Accountancy, Finance or related discipline.
  • Professional qualification in Credit risk management/CPA/ACCA is an added advantage.
  • 3 years of banking or related work experience in Credit, Risk Management, Corporate lending, policy, credit analysis, credit approval or Internal audit.
  • Strong Managerial and leadership skills.
  • Thorough statistical analysis of underlying data requiring regression and time series analyses. Understanding of risk factors that impact the credit quality of portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative credit risk modeling (e.g., PDs, LGDs, EADs,), and good understanding of portfolio credit metrics such as limits, expected and unexpected loss, capital allocation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and comfortably engage senior management.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, data modelling and validation tools.
  • Proficient PC skills with experience in Microsoft Office and Outlook, PowerPoint, and others.
  • Assertive, Negotiation, creative and self-awareness skills
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and work efficiently both autonomously and as a part of a team
