Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is a body Corporate established by the URC Act. The mandate of the Corporation is to undertake Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Railway, Marine and Road services, both in and outside of Uganda for the carriage of passengers and goods. Applications are invited from suitable qualified Ugandans to fill the following positions:

Responsibilities or duties

  • Taking overall responsibility for the maintenance and safety of the track within their assigned section, ensuring it is in a satisfactory condition for traffic .
  • Planning, supervising, and executing all works incidental to track maintenance, including track relaying and major renewals .
  • Conducting routine inspections of the entire section by push trolley at least once a fortnight (or more often as necessary) to check the work of gangs and identify defects .
  • Performing specific inspections of points and crossings, curves, and level crossings according to a set schedule .
  • Testing the running qualities of the track by traveling on the footplate of fast trains and in the rear vehicles to identify and rectify bad running spots .
  • Checking and managing patrolmen to ensure they are effectively monitoring the track, particularly during monsoon seasons .
  • Maintaining detailed records and registers, including section registers, gang charts, diaries, curve registers, and inspection notes .
  • Ensuring the security and proper accounting of permanent way materials, tools, and stores in their charge .
  • Coordinating with other departments like Works, Bridge, and Signalling on joint activities .
  • Submitting special reports to higher officials on the condition of the track and proposing remedial actions when necessary .
