JOB DETAILS:

Background

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks. The company sales and distributes electricity in Uganda as per ERA License issued on 31 December 2024 covering over 135 political districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

Responsibilities

• Accurate records of operational activities and incidents.
• Continuous communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Compliance with safety and regulatory standards in all system operations.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Academic Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering.

Experience

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in grid operations or power system management.
• Hands- on experience with SCADA and other control system tools is an advantage.

Competencies

• Strong understanding of power system operations, grid dynamics, and load management.
• Proficiency in using SCADA and other grid monitoring tools.
• Excellent problem- solving and decision- making skills under pressure.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
• Familiarity with grid codes, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
• Ability to work in shifts and respond to emergencies promptly.

Working Environment

The position is based in a control room with 24/7 operations, requiring shift work and availability for emergencies. The System Operator interacts with multiple stakeholders, including field crews and other control room staff, in a fast- paced and dynamic environment.
