FH is currently operating programs in Asia, Latin America and Africa with support offices in the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, United States of America and Japan. FH’s primary goal is to end all forms of poverty World-wide. In Uganda, FH is operational in the Districts of Adjumani, Kitgum, Lamwo, Kween, Mbale, Namutumba and Amudat Districts implementing programs in four main sectors of Education; Food Security and Livelihoods; Health/Nutrition and Disaster Risk Reduction; with the Head office located in Kampala. We believe in working with communities to create lasting change that empowers people and transforms lives. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Program Coordinator to join our team in one of the following Area Programs: Kitgum, Lamwo, Mbale, Kween, Amudat, Namutumba, and Adjumani. The Program Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and management of our programs

Job Summary

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the design, implementation of programs and projects, build community capacities, provide technical support, mentor Program Assistants, monitor and evaluate all FH programs within their assigned Area Program, ensuring alignment with FH's mission, Heartbeat and mindset values. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of community development principles with special attention to core areas in Child Engagement, Productive learning, Asset creation, Physical health and mental wellbeing and a commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities

A. Program Development & Management

  • Lead the development and implementation of all program activities, including Child Engagement (Sponsorship), Asset creation, Productive Learning, and Physical Health and Mental Wellbeing.
  • Ensure all programs are implemented in accordance with project plans, budgets, and donor requirements.
  • Work closely with the Program Assistants to ensure that program registered children and their families benefit from the sectoral programs and projects.
  • Monitor program progress, identify challenges, and develop effective solutions to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate program reports to management and donors.

B. Financial Management

  • Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring all expenditures are in line with organizational policies and donor regulations.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular updates to the Area Program Manager.
  • Ensure proper financial documentation and accountability for all program activities.

C. Team & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with and provide technical guidance to program staff to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Foster strong relationships with community leaders, local government authorities, and other stakeholders to facilitate program success.
  • Represent FH in relevant forums and meetings at the district level.
  • Ensure that program activities are integrated and that cross-functional collaboration is optimized.

D. Monitoring, Evaluation, Reflection, and Learning (MERL)

  • Support the MERL team in designing and implementing robust monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor program activities and collect data.
  • Ensure program data is accurately captured, analyzed, and used for decision-making and program improvement.
  • Promote a culture of learning and accountability within the program team
  • Provide monthly reports (progress against planned activities, expense against estimated budget, etc.) of program and grant project activities to the Program Manager as per agreed schedule
  • Prepare semi-annual and annual reports of Program and grant activities (progress against delivery of outputs and achievement of outcomes, etc.) to the Area Program as per the agreed schedule.

Job Level Specifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Agriculture, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related discipline. A Post Graduate Diploma in Project planning and management is an added advantage.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in project management and financial management.
  • A strong commitment to FH's heartbeat and mindset values and mission.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in program management within the humanitarian or development sector, preferably with an NGO.
  • Proven experience in managing multi-sectoral programs, including child Engagement (sponsorship), Asset creation (Livelihoods), Productive Learning (education), and Physical health and mental wellbeing (health).

Language

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is satisfactory.
