Job purpose

This project aims to expand access to formal financial services for 1.5 million low-income women entrepreneurs in Uganda, particularly those in micro segments. It will develop tailored financial products, enhance digital platforms, and extend SACCO solutions to women. The project also includes the establishment and management of the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Fund, which will provide low-cost wholesale finance to MFIs and direct lending to women entrepreneurs. Capacity building, digitalization and business development services will be provided to support women-led enterprises and promote financial inclusion.

Responsibilities

Project Delivery and Performance

  • Develop and maintain detailed implementation plans and milestones aligned with project objectives.
  • Ensure delivery of outputs within agreed tolerances and initiate corrective actions when necessary. Ensure sales acquisition targets are met.
  • Embed sustainability dimensions including gender inclusion, environmental, and economic aspects throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor progress, manage risks, and ensure quality of deliverables in line with donor expectations and Stanbic’s standards.
  • Lead contract management and supplier performance evaluation.

Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination.

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with MFIs, SACCOs, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement strategies and ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Represent the project in strategic meetings, working groups, and donor engagements.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of project reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) in line with donor and internal requirements.
  • Track performance against KPIs including outreach, financial inclusion, and sustainability metrics.
  • Support project audits and ensure compliance with financial and operational standards.

Knowledge Management and Innovation

  • Promote learning and innovation by documenting lessons learned and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of scalable models for women’s financial inclusion and empowerment.
  • Support capacity building initiatives for project staff and implementing partners.

Personnel Management

  • Lead and motivate the project team, ensuring clarity of roles and performance expectations.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of project staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and respect in line with Stanbic’s values.

Person Specification

Education, Training, Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in business administration, Development Studies, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in project/program management, preferably in financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, or development finance.
  • Proven experience managing multi-stakeholder projects involving government, civil society, and financial institutions.
  • Experience in managing donor-funded projects, especially with international organizations or foundations. Familiarity with SACCOs, MFIs, and digital financial services is highly desirable.
  • Certification in PRINCE2 (Practitioner Level) or equivalent project management methodology is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply structured project management approaches including development and execution of implementation plans, risk and issue management, stakeholder engagement and communication planning, quality assurance and contract management, monitoring, reporting, adaptive management, knowledge management and sustainability planning.
  • Strong communication, empathy and listening skills, confidence, persistence and product knowledge. A flexible problem-solving mind set with strong work ethic driven by self-motivation and resilience.
  • Field based with a valid driving permit
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required
