1. Job Purpose
The Recycling Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all plastic recycling operations within the plant. The role ensures efficient material recovery, cost control, environmental compliance, quality standards, and continuous improvement of recycling processes to support sustainable production and business growth.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Operational Management
Oversee daily recycling plant operations (collection, sorting, shredding, washing, pelletizing).
Ensure optimal machine utilization and minimal downtime.
Develop and implement recycling production schedules.
Monitor output, yield, and material recovery efficiency.
B. Quality Control
Ensure recycled materials meet internal production specifications.
Collaborate with Quality Control team to maintain product standards.
Implement quality improvement initiatives.
C. Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with national environmental regulations and waste management laws.
Maintain records required for environmental audits and certifications.
Promote sustainable waste handling practices.
D. Financial & Cost Control
Manage departmental budget and operational costs.
Monitor material loss and wastage.
Identify cost-saving opportunities in energy, labor, and materials.
E. Team Leadership
Supervise recycling plant staff and machine operators.
Provide training on safety, equipment use, and best practices.
Enforce workplace safety and discipline standards.
Conduct performance evaluations.
F. Supply Chain & Sourcing
Coordinate sourcing of recyclable plastic materials.
Develop relationships with suppliers, aggregators, and collection partners.
Monitor raw material availability to avoid production disruptions.
G. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports.
Maintain production, maintenance, and safety records.
Provide performance metrics to management.
3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Recycling output volume per month
Material recovery rate
Machine downtime percentage
Cost per ton processed
Compliance with environmental standards
Workplace safety incidents (zero-incident target)
4. Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in plastics manufacturing or recycling operations.
Strong understanding of plastic types (HDPE, PET, PP, LDPE, etc.).
Experience managing plant machinery and production teams.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and waste management practices.
5. Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team management skills
Operational planning and process optimization
Budgeting and cost control
Analytical and problem-solving ability
Knowledge of recycling technologies and equipment
Excellent communication and reporting skills
High level of integrity and accountability
6. Working Conditions
Based primarily in a factory/plant environment.
May require extended hours depending on production demands.
Exposure to industrial machinery and recycling materials.
7. Authority Level
Authority to supervise recycling staff.
Authority to recommend procurement of equipment and materials.
Authority to enforce safety compliance within the department.
