JOB DETAILS:

To provide strategic leadership in research, innovation, and project management by developing research policies, securing funding, overseeing project execution, and ensuring alignment with institutional and national development goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Research Development & Management

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary research initiatives across academic disciplines.
• Develop research policies and guidelines in line with institutional and national frameworks.
• Ensure ethical compliance in research activities.
• Oversee technology transfer, patenting, and prototyping initiatives.

2. Project Planning & Implementation

• Design and manage end-to-end research projects from inception to completion.
• Ensure projects align with institutional strategic goals and stakeholder expectations.
• Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for efficiency.

3. Funding & Grants Acquisition

• Identify and secure research grants and funding from local and international sources.
• Develop winning proposals and funding applications.
• Maintain strong relationships with funding agencies, donors, and industry partners.
• Secure collaborative research grants with industry and higher education institutions (HEIs).

4. Capacity Building & Knowledge Transfer

• Mentor lecturers and students on research methodologies and project management.
• Organize workshops, seminars, and conferences to promote research excellence.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer and commercialization of research findings.

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships

• Collaborate with government agencies, industry, and academia on research initiatives.
• Establish interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research networks.
• Represent the institution in research and innovation forums.

6. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

• Develop M&E frameworks for tracking research impact.
• Prepare reports on funding utilization, project outcomes, and research impact.
• Ensure transparency and accountability in project execution.

Person Specifications

Education & Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Project Management, Research Methods, Data Science, Statistics, Innovation Management, Computer Science, Engineering, or related ICT field.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Research Methods, Data Science, ICT, Engineering, etc.).
• Additional certifications in research methodologies, innovation, or project management (desirable).
• Professional IT Certifications (ITIL4, MCSE, CISSP, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC, PMP – desirable).
• Certified Research Administrator (CRA) (added advantage).

Experience

• 5-10 years in research, project management, or consultancy.
• Proven track record in securing and managing research grants.
• Strong knowledge of research methodologies, project management frameworks, and funding procedures.
• Experience in leading ICT and innovation research projects.
• Familiarity with academic writing, policy briefs, and research dissemination.
• Hands-on experience with data analysis tools and research management software.

Skills & Attributes

Technical Skills:

• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in research software (SPSS, NVivo, R, Python) and project management tools (MS Project, Trello, Asana).
• Strong proposal writing and grant acquisition skills.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management.
• Ability to mentor researchers and build institutional capacity.
