Job Description

The Tax GL / VAT Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate reconciliation, filing, and reporting of VAT in compliance with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and EFRIS requirements. The role focuses on timely resolution of VAT differences and maintaining clean VAT ledgers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform monthly VAT reconciliations for Output and Input VAT between accounting ledgers and URA EFRIS reports, including variance analysis and explanations.
• Manage credit notes and amended VAT returns, ensuring accurate posting, filing, and follow-up with URA for approval.
• Prepare and file monthly VAT returns, VAT payment summaries, and vouchers; apply for VAT offsets and ensure proper ledger allocation.
• Handle specialized VAT areas, including VAT on fixed assets, imported goods, and reverse VAT on imported services, with full reconciliation and clearance of prior-period balances.
• Prepare and reconcile VAT withheld schedules, validate URA data, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in tax accounting and tax advisory.
• Strong understanding of Uganda tax legislation, including Income Tax, VAT, and related taxes.
• Proven experience in preparing financial statements and schedules for tax reporting.
• Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is an added advantage.
