Background
Our client, a leading company in the logistics sector, is seeking an experienced Transport & Fleet Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, coordinating, and optimizing all land transportation and fleet operations across the organization. This role plays a critical part in supporting the Directors by ensuring efficient day-to-day transport operations, effective cost control, regulatory compliance, and high safety standards across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee all daily transport operations, including loading, offloading, dispatch, tracking, and timely delivery of client cargo across all operating locations.
- Schedule and manage daily and weekly transport routes, ensuring optimal fleet utilization, efficiency, and service reliability across multiple sites.
- Oversee fleet and asset management by conducting daily vehicle inspections, managing preventive maintenance programs, and ensuring timely identification and resolution of repair requirements.
- Maintain accurate, organized transport, shipping, compliance, and asset documentation while ensuring effective control of company equipment, spare parts, and inventory.
- Manage and continuously improve transportation systems within the ERP, including the Transportation Management System, barcoding, asset tracking, and operational process enhancements.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on fleet and transportation operating costs, supporting cost control initiatives, accurate invoicing, and continuous improvement through data-driven recommendations.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, legal and regulatory requirements, and safety standards by conducting regular vehicle audits, maintaining documented procedures, and staying current with regional transport laws.
- Provide strong leadership and coordination across drivers, workshop teams, and management, supporting staff performance, cross-site communication, organizational scalability, and talent development.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Transport Manager, Fleet Manager, or similar senior logistics role.
- 7–12 years of progressive experience in transportation and fleet operations.
- Strong knowledge of land transportation in East Africa, including cross-border operations.
- Solid understanding of transport methods, cost structures, and operational efficiency.
