Job Summary (Main Purpose)
To provide efficient and courteous meal service to hospital patients, ensuring correct dietary requirements are met in line with medical and nutritional guidelines, while maintaining high standards of hygiene and patient care.
Main Duties/Responsibilities.
- Deliver meals, snacks, and beverages to patients in wards according to prescribed diets.
- Verify patient meal trays against dietary instructions.
- Ensure meals are served at the correct temperature and in a timely manner.
- Assist patients, where necessary, with opening food containers or setting up trays.
- Collect used trays, crockery, and cutlery after meals and return them for cleaning.
- Report any patient feedback, complaints, or issues with meals to the supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in food trolleys, trays, and serving equipment.
- Follow hospital infection control and food safety standards strictly.
- Support the nutrition team in monitoring food consumption if required.
- Show courtesy, patience, and empathy when interacting with patients.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Meal Accuracy: % of meals delivered that match prescribed patient dietary requirements
- Timeliness of Service: % of meals delivered within the scheduled serving time
- Patient Satisfaction: Patient feedback ratings on meal service.
- Food Safety & Hygiene Compliance: Adherence to hospital hygiene and infection control standards.
- Resource Handling: Proper handling of serving equipment, crockery, and cutlery.
- Attendance & Reliability: Punctuality and attendance records.
Key Skills and Competencies
Qualifications
Formal education required for competence in the job
- Diploma in Catering, Culinary Arts, or a related field.
Experience
- At least 1 year experience in hotels service.
- Previous experience in healthcare catering or patient meal service is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and special diets
Behavioural Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to handle patients with care, respect, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
