Background
Akros Research is supporting a 3-year program, funded by the Mastercard Foundation and in partnership with the Africa CDC, to increase Covid19 vaccine uptake in Africa. This initiative, called Saving Lives and Livelihoods, includes multiple components and partners working to procure, distribute, and promote vaccine uptake in a safe manner. As a part of this consortium Akros Research will support Africa Union member states in the Eastern and Southern African regions to strengthen COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance systems.
The Drug Safety Surveillance Officer will implement innovation intended to strengthen the capacity to monitor and report actively adverse events following immunization with COVID-19 vaccines, ensuring a successful implementation of the SLL programme's COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance. The Officer will work with the Ministry of Health, National Drug Authority and the assigned Regional Referral Hospital, and stakeholders to promote a safe vaccine uptake and strengthen the COVID-19 response.

Specific Responsibilities
• Proactively engage in COVID-19 vaccination activities and implement innovative approaches to screen, detect, assess, actively follow up with phone calls of individuals that receive COVID-19 vaccines for any suspected adverse drug events
• Receive calls through the toll-free portal and log them into appropriate adverse event reporting forms
• Monitor and coordinate data entry of any suspected adverse events from COVID-19 vaccination received, into the national electronic databases
• Analyze and interpret clients drug safety concerns and provide professional guidance as may be appropriate
• Follow up safety concerns and make appropriate referrals and linkages to clinical care
• Communicate effectively on Saving Lives and Livelihoods through proactive monitoring and reporting of adverse events following immunization
• Prepare and share weekly status updates, monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual reports on status and activity implementation
• Any other duties that may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or MBChB preferred or any relevant field in medicine
• 2-5 years of progressive experience working with program management
• Strong experience working with Government's Ministries of Health, regulatory authority, donors, and subnational structures and managing emergency responses
• Previous experience with project and organizational representation to the Ministry of Health at national or subnational levels is an added advantage.
• Previous experience with pharmacovigilance activities is an added advantage.

Job Summary
Conduct clinical assessment of research participants, Recruit eligible study participants and provide nursing care and medical services to the study participants according to the study protocol, Develop required standard operating procedures, and Submit event reports to regulatory bodies, IRB and the sponsor.

Overall Responsibilities
1. Participate in the identification, screening and recruitment of eligible participants and ensure achievement of the target number of participants within the designated period, with close follow up as per study protocol to minimize participant loss-to-follow-up.
2. Give study information to eligible clients and obtain written informed consent from the participants and care takers.
3. Perform the required study Anthropometric measurements on all the study participants as per visit schedule in line with the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
4. Provide initial and emergency treatment for any patients requiring admission and follow up these patients on the ward together with the study doctor according to the Uganda clinical guidelines, and prevailing national HIV/TB treatment guidelines. Provide clinical care to participants according to the Uganda clinical guidelines, national HIV and TB treatment guidelines.
5. Collect required samples for TB diagnosis such as induced sputum, naso-pharygneal aspirate, gastric lavage, stool and swabs.
6. Collect study data using provided tools such as electronic or paper-based Case Report Forms (CRFs) and source documents. File documents accordingly in line with the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
7. Conduct quality control (QC) procedures on completed informed consent forms (ICFs) and CRFs from each station for accuracy and logical completion then document the Identified errors in the study error log. Make immediate alerts to the concerned study staff to rectify the errors, follow-up resolution of errors and forward the file to the filing clerk for data entry in a timely manner as per the Study Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Respond to data queries from routine QC/QA or site monitoring visit in line with the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
8. Prepare and circulate minutes from meetings to key stakeholders. Prepare weekly study progress reports and any other reports as requested by the study coordinator and site investigator in line with the Study protocol.
9. Conduct follow-up home visits for clients receiving ART and TPT in the community, and supervise the community health workers, in line with the study protocol and GCP guidelines.
10. Participate in writing and review of study SOPs as per the need to clarify steps for critical procedures.

Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies:
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
• Training in TB screening, prevention and treatment. HIV/AIDs treatment, prevention and research is an added advantage.
• At least 2 years’ experience offering nursing care in a TB-HIV clinic, and research setting.

6. Take lead in the development of technical guidelines and tools' for TB/HIV services.

Position summary
The Nutrition Field Officer will be responsible for rolling out training components and behavior change campaign materials related to nutrition at the household and community level, including hygienic food preparation and storage and the importance of dietary diversity. He/she will also participate in the development and refinement of training modules and SBCC materials based on learnings and developments in the local context under the leadership of the Nutrition lead. The Nutrition Field Officer will also be responsible for carry out nutrition situational assessments in the inception phase of the project.

Main tasks and responsibilities
1. Lead the local implementation of nutrition status surveys and disseminate findings to relevant stakeholders
2. Support the Nutrition Lead to develop the nutrition strategy for the project
3. Provide local context to the design and adaptation of nutrition training materials social behavior change communication materials for different audiences including communities, farmer groups, households and subsistence and market-oriented farmers.
4. Conduct the roll out of the nutrition training program through lead farmers and local partners
5. Conduct the roll out of the social and behavior change communication (SBCC) campaigns and demonstrations around nutrition and dietary practices, including kitchen gardens, cooking demonstrations, and media messaging
6. Coordinate with other project officers to ensure integration of nutrition approaches with household visioning and planning exercise and climate smart agricultural training program on promoting crop diversification and nutritional values.
7. Link with existing nutrition structures at sub county and district level to ensure coordination and maximum outreach of activities.
8. Create synergies with other nutrition programs/projects including DIETS to ensure maximum impact of activities and better awareness of and access to nutrition services within the project areas.

Position and duty station
The Nutrition Field Officer is a national position with a duty in the IFDC main project office in Fort Portal (1), the field offices of Mbale(1) & Kabale(1).
The position requires intensive field travels (up to 90% of the time) in the target region in Uganda.

Job title: Study Health Workers (Nurses /Lab Officers ) – 10 Positions
Position status: Short-term contract
Reporting to: Field team lead/supervisor
Position Objectives:
The purpose of this job is to support collection, appropriate packaging, shipment of TB sputum and HIV samples from the field samples to central laboratories in addition to carrying out HIV rapid tests and appropriate disposal of waste in line with the TB prevalence survey protocol and Manual of Operations.

Specific assignment
1. Daily requisition for sample collection materials for sputum, HIV blood and DBS collection, processing, storage, and transportation from the logistics officer through field team leader.
2. Obtain informed consent from participants
3. Allocate study PIN numbers to eligible respondents and record the allocated PIN on the respondent’s invitation card that the participants wear from station to station
4. Record the PIN on the individual respondent’s questionnaire
5. Administer a structured questionnaire covering g to all eligible and consenting respondents.
6. Accurately and timely record respondent’s responses
7. Hand over study respondents to a volunteer who leads the participant to the radiographer and to the next stations.
8. Follow project protocol and manual of field operations in all procedures and always keep all study information confidential.
9. Ensure appropriate infection control measures as per the protocol SOPs
10. Instruct study participants on sputum collection technique and open spaces where sputum collection should be carried out.
11. Receive sputum samples from study respondents and check for sample quality and adequacy.
12. Maintain sample viability prior shipment to central laboratories as prescribed in the study protocol and Manual of Operations
13. Collect sputum, and blood samples from eligible respondents
14. Label all samples appropriately
15. Perform rapid HIV tests, and appropriately store blood and sputum samples prior to shipment to the regional and central testing labs.
16. Process and record HIV results in appropriate study tools.
17. Offer appropriate pre and posttest counselling, and Issue study HIV results to respondents.
18. Fill out the TB and other registers and the lab request form
19. Completely and accurately fill out sputum, IGRA, VL, COVID-PCR and Blood culture collection and transportation registers.
20. Apply study Personal identification numbers on all collected samples and tools that correspond each request form.
21. Package and ship study samples/specimen to central lab through approved sample referral/transportation mechanisms within 48hours of collection.
22. Collect contaminated materials and infectious waste in vinyl bags and dispose them following recommended MoH waste disposal guidelines.
23. In all procedures, follow the project protocol and manual of field operations and always keep all study information confidential.
24. Perform other related duties as required.

Educational Requirements and Qualifications:
• May have any of the following: Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery or Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing, Diploma in Medical Laboratory technology, bachelor’s in biomedical lab technology. MUST HAVE CERTIFICATION IN HIV RAPID TESTING BY THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH (Verified by the UVRI database for rapid testers), Certificate in good clinical practice is added advantage.
