Reports to: Resident Director

Job Purpose:
The Head Teacher will be responsible for the overall administration, management, and leadership of the primary school in accordance with the relevant laws of the Republic of Uganda, policies, guidelines and circulars as issued by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The role emphasizes fostering strong relationships with stakeholders and ensuring quality teaching and learning.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of both the academic curriculum and co-curricular activities which develop a holistic child, continuously improving academic standards.
• Coordinate with the school management committee and provide accountability to the Ministry of Education and Sports.
• Prepare and oversee the implementation of the annual school workplan and calendar.

Academic Leadership:
• Monitor the curriculum, teaching practices, and learning outcomes to ensure high-quality education.
• Supervise the Heads of Department, Section Supervisors and teachers in the section, establish clear and measurable objectives, on-going feedback, periodic reviews and fair and unbiased evaluations.
• Promote a culture that supports education and learning through engagement and championing modern teaching practices, and rolling them out across the school.
• Work with teachers to recommend and implement curriculum modifications as needed.
• Ensure innovation and consistency in teaching practices to enable personalized learning for all students.
• Strike a balance between academic, co-curricular, and life skills for learners.

Financial Management:
• Ensure timely payment of school fees by all pupils to maintain healthy cash flows.
• Prepare, implement, and monitor the annual school budget.
• Ensure cost control measures are observed in the delivery of educational services.

Stakeholder Engagement:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including parents, ministry officials, the school management committee and the local community.
• Provide timely and effective communication to all stakeholders regarding the school’s activities and plans.

Resource and Staff Management
• Plan, monitor, and coordinate teaching programs and staff activities.
• Supervise and appraise all employees of the school.
• Direct pupil admissions, welfare services, and the provision of supplies.
• Develop and execute development projects to enhance the school’s infrastructure and resources.

Reporting and Policy Implementation
• Prepare progress and summary reports for presentation to the school management committee.
• Participate in the implementation of primary education reforms as outlined by the Ministry of Education.
• Monitor standards of behavior and maintain discipline of both staff and students

Qualification and Experience
Educational Requirements
• Degree in Education (Primary) from a recognized training Institution.
• Additional qualifications in education management or related fields will be an added advantage.

Professional Requirements
• Must be a registered teacher with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
• At least nine (9) years of teaching experience as a qualified primary teacher.
• At least 3 years as a deputy head teacher or 5 years in a senior role with administrative responsibilities (e.g. Head of Department or coordinator of co-curricular activities).

• Strong leadership and organizational skills to oversee school operations effectively.
• Excellent planning, budgeting, and accountability abilities.
• Deep understanding of curriculum design and teaching methodologies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to foster a balance of academic and co-curricular activities.
• Capacity to develop and implement strategies to enhance student and staff performance.
