Assignment Overview
Eco Brixs (EB) is within CFYE Uganda’s portfolio of IP’s and is a recycling business adding value to plastic waste. Eco Brixs has undergone rapid growth and is now in a position to scale its business and employ further staff across multiple sites. Eco Brixs work of recycling plastic not only prevents pollution entering into the environment but also creates green jobs, with every kg of plastic waste recovered being brought from the community. Your work will therefore help grow the positive impact of Eco Brixs and expand their replicable model to other parts of Uganda.
In June 2025, Eco Brixs appointed a full-time HR position to help manage the growing staff, their needs, and the company’s needs. The assignment is to work closely with Eco Brixs HR Manager to review existing and implement new HR systems, develop and implement training and coaching programs for all staff to understand HR systems.
Objectives and Activities
The objective of this consultancy is to ensure Eco Brixs has HR systems in place that encourage staff retention, accountability, and communication, and the staff and other stakeholders are trained and coached on these systems. The aim is also to set up systems that protect both the company and the employees.
Phase 1: Review Eco Brixs current HR systems:
The consultant is expected to:
- Visit Eco Brixs: On the ground visit to Eco Brixs to review HR systems and identify areas of improvement.
- Plan to strengthen HR Systems: Have a practical guide/plan on areas to strengthen Eco Brixs HR Systems and how to do so.
Phase 2: Development and implementation of new HR systems
Based on the outcomes of phase 1:, the consultant is expected to:
- HR adaptations and Revisions: Support HR Manager to revise the EB HR systems, incorporating the newly identified areas that require
- Create & Implement Training Program: Work with the Eco Brixs HR manager to implement a training program that empowers staff to understand the benefits of HR, HR systems, and how these HR systems operate.
- Legal: Ensure Eco Brixs is legally covered by reviewing HR policies and staff handbook, among others.
Phase 3: Review of systems being embedded
Based on the outcomes of phases 1&2 and:, the consultant is expected to do:
Review / Audit and Coach Eco Brixs on new HR systems: Working with Eco Brixs HR Manager, complete an on-site review of Eco Brixs new HR systems. Checking that systems have been implemented and are being adopted as best practice in the culture of Eco Brixs. Training the senior team and staff on HR systems to ensure they are adopted.
During all of the above-mentioned phases, the consultant is expected to adopt a participatory yet confidential approach, working alongside Eco Brixs senior team, HR Manager, and Co-Founders to review and strengthen Eco Brixs HR foundations. The proposed methodology should include, but is not limited to:
- Active on-site training of team members, direct working with HR Manager
- Coaching the users of HR systems Deliverables
- Supervision / Appraisal Calendar
- Complete Review of Eco Brixs HR systems with the newly appointed HR Manager
- Revised HR systems/Protocols
- Mock Review Audit of Eco Brixs HR Systems
- Training and coaching report
Operational Arrangements
The consultant will report to the HR Manager of Eco Brixs as well as to the CFYE Uganda Country Lead. The consultant will be contracted for this assignment through CFYE, and contracting will be done in Uganda in UGX. Approvals on reporting (see also below) will be done together by Eco Brixs and CFYE, which will also serve as trigger for payments.
On a day-to-day basis, the consultant will collaborate closely with the management teams of Eco Brixs. This means that the consultant is expected to visit the respective head offices, and those of its partners, frequently, as well as frequently sit with Hr Manager and support in any off-site official visits to legal offices as needed.
Core Competencies & minimum requirements
The consultant should possess the following qualifications and expertise:
- At least a Master’s degree in a relevant field in HR and personnel management
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working in HR, preferably in a private sector setting
- Track record of effectively and successfully advising SMEs on HR systems
- Experience in reviewing policies and governing documents
- Strong analytical, communication, and HR development skills
- Willingness to travel to Masaka, Uganda
Level of Effort and Reporting
The consultant can ideally start as soon as possible, but no later than August 2025, and engage on the assignment for 3-4 months. This engagement is on a part-time basis, requiring approximately 8-12 hours per week with a maximum Level of Effort of 25-30 days. In its proposal, the consultant is requested to provide an overview of how the LoE is proposed to be divided over the different activities.
During implementation, the consultant shall provide a monthly log of hours worked, detailing the activities performed. This should also lay the foundation for monthly invoicing for the assignment. Besides the above-mentioned deliverables, the consultant will also provide a monthly progress report to both the companies as well as CFYE, and will write a final report in conclusion on all activities
