UBONGO is Africa's leading producer of kids' edutainment. As a non-profit social enterprise, we create fun, localised, and multi-platform educational content that helps kids learn, and leverage their learning to change their lives. Ubongo reaches over 27 million kids across Africa through accessible technologies like TV, radio, and mobile phones. Our show’s Ubongo Kids and Akili and Me currently air in 23 countries across Africa in multiple languages. 

We are looking for a MEL Intern to support monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) by developing data collection tools, coordinating surveys, analyzing data, and tracking program performance. This position contributes to evaluations, documents lessons learned, and produces reports to inform decision-making, while promoting a culture of learning and upholding Ubongoers’ principles and norms.


Responsibilities

Monitoring 

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of monitoring tools and data collection instruments.
  • Support the development of surveys, questionnaires, and other data collection tools tailored to program needs.
  • Assist in planning and executing data collection activities, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observations.
  • Regularly collect and compile data on program activities, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Clean, organize, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate program performance.
  • Monitor program implementation against established targets and performance indicators.

Impact Evaluation





  • Support periodic evaluations (baseline, mid-term, end-line) to assess program impact.
  • Collaborate with external evaluators if needed.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks and reports to inform program adjustments.
  • Assist in the design and delivery of Ubongo Researchers convening and subsequent follow ups.

Learning &Reporting 



  • Promote a culture of learning within Ubongo.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices.
  • Develop detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings, insights, and recommendations.
  • Capture lessons learned and best practices to inform future programs and strategies.
  • Support packaging and dissemination of findings for internal and external use

Company Wide Responsibility

  • Exemplify Ubongoers principles and norms

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Educational

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, Statistics, or a related field.

Experience

  • Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts.
  • Experience or coursework in research methodology, data collection, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, KoboToolbox, or SPSS/Stata is an asset.

Skills 

  • Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
