Biyinzika Poultry International Limited (BPIL) is the leading integrated poultry company and a recognized household brand within Uganda. Established 30 years ago as Biyinzika, BPIL has grown from small beginnings to a company with over 9?5 employees stationed in over 9 production sites. BPIL produces and distributes quality day-old chicks and HACCP certified animal feed through over 40 branches within Uganda and the East African region. BPIL also produces chicken meat products under the Pearl Chicken brand retailed directly through our 30 Pearl chicken shops. Pearl also supplies leading wholesale, retail and food service customers with quality Ugandan National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) certified products.
Job Summary:
The Operations Manager – Feed mill is responsible for ensuring that the feed mill runs efficiently and produces quality feed for the market
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operating the mill efficiently in order to produce feed volumes a per budget and as per market and own farms requirements, all the while attaining the budgeted cost/unit
- Meeting set KPI’s and as per the strategic plan
- Complying with HACCP in all its aspects
- Assisting with procurement and receiving of raw materials
- Stock control and stock management so as to maintain quality and minimise losses and theft opportunities
- Liaising with farms to ensure timely manufacture and delivery of feeds
- Reporting as required in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensuring that labour practices in the mill are compliant with our HR policies
- Interacting with staff and their representatives regularly to ensure the team is motivated and staff morale is high
- Recruitment and training new staff as and when required
- Plan for further expansion, as per the Company five-year plan
- Continuous assessment of staff and staff needs, on site training and participation in the recruitment process, health and safety in the work place.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor
Success Measures
- Procure and process raw materials to match feed demand from own farms and marketplace
- Produce quality feed to minimize performance issues on own farms and complaints from the marketplace
- Minimize stock losses and production losses
Financial Responsibility
- Stay within budgeted costs (fixed and variable costs)
- Procure raw materials at best price
- Manage stocks to minimize losses due to poor storage or theft
- Manage the production process to minimize losses
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A degree or diploma in Ag Economics, Agri-Business, Engineering or related studies
Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years of supervisory experience demonstrating the ability to provide successful leadership for an operational site
- Prior experience in the agricultural industry with grain and crop inputs is required.
- Leadership skills with experience of managing a large staff complement
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with livestock nutrition, including ration balancing.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with CFIA and HACCP regulatory and health and safety standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial terms and reporting.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as additional web-based sites, and the ability to quickly learn and utilize new software.
- Able to transfer knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse population
