LIFENET INTERNATIONAL UGANDA is recruiting a (Ugandan National) Transport Facilitator who will be responsible for supporting safe transport duties with logistical support to keep a program running smoothly.
Responsibilities
Safe and Timely Transportation
● Drive staff, visitors, and materials safely and efficiently to and from designated locations within Kampala
and throughout various field regions of Uganda.
● Adhere strictly to all national traffic laws, road safety regulations, and LifeNet International's transport and safety policies (e.g., speed limits, seatbelt use, vehicle capacity).
● Maintain strict punctuality and adherence to travel schedules, proactively communicating any delays or route changes to the Administration Officer and relevant passengers.
● Ensure efficient use of LNI resources by using the most effective routes for field work activities using the best judgement.
Vehicle Operations and Maintenance
● Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking fuel, oil, water, tires, brakes, lights, and other essential components.
● Ensure the assigned vehicle is always clean, both inside and out.
● Identify and report any mechanical faults, damages, or necessary repairs to the Administration Officer promptly.
● Coordinate and facilitate timely vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repairs with approved service providers as instructed by the Administration Officer.
● Manage fuel consumption efficiently, maintain accurate fuel records, and ensure vehicles are adequately fueled for planned trips.
● Assist with the loading and unloading of goods, equipment, and materials, ensuring proper handling and securing during transit.
● Deliver and collect mail, documents, supplies, and other items as directed.
● Provide logistical support for field activities, workshops, and events as required.
Safety and Security
● Ensure the safety and security of all passengers and property during transportation.
● Maintain first aid kits, emergency tools, and safety equipment in the vehicle and ensure they are up-to-date and accessible.
● Report all traffic incidents, accidents, or breakdowns immediately to the Administration Officer and follow established emergency procedures.
● Adhere to security protocols and maintain awareness of local security conditions and potential risks during travel, particularly in field locations.
● Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information overheard during travel.
Record Keeping and Reporting
● Maintain accurate and up-to-date daily vehicle logbooks, including mileage, fuel consumption, routes, and passenger details.
● Submit accurate fuel receipts, repair invoices, and other expense documentation in a timely manner.
● Prepare and submit incident reports for any accidents, breakdowns, or security concerns.
● Frequently review the digital vehicle tracker system and ensure compliance of the SOPs
Communication and Professionalism
● Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, visitors, and external contacts.
● Represent LifeNet International positively through courteous and professional conduct.
● Maintain a neat appearance and demonstrate courtesy and professionalism at all times.
● Be flexible and adaptable to changing travel plans or unexpected situations, demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Qualifications
● Minimum of an O-Level Certificate or equivalent.
● A valid and clean Ugandan driving license (Classes B, DL, CM minimum).
● At least 4 years of progressive professional driving experience, with demonstrable experience in an NGO setting preferred.
● Proven experience driving in diverse road conditions, including upcountry and rural areas.
● Demonstrated knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics and troubleshooting.
● Certificate in defensive driving is a significant advantage.
● Proficiency in using navigation tools (e.g., GPS, Google Maps) and strong knowledge of local routes and geography.
● Proficiency in basic English (written and spoken) is required.
