Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in a Counselling Field from a recognized Institution of Higher Learning.
2. Bachelor’s degree in a Counselling Field from a recognized Institution of Higher Learning.
3. Must have at least five (5) years of working experience in counselling and working with young adults.
4. Must have good Interpersonal professional skills: ability to cooperate and network on a multidisciplinary team, including medical, chaplaincy, academic staff, administration, Dean of Students’ office, and other counsellors and psychologists to optimally serve the clients.
5. Must be a good listener, able to build warm, respectful, and caring relationships
6. Must have Discernment and good judgment to know when to refer a client to another counsellor or another professional.
7. Must be a good time manager and exhibit the ability to analyse problems and formulate solutions.
8. Must be a person of high integrity and able to maintain confidentiality.
9. Must be a fully registered and credited member of the Uganda Counselling Association.
10. Must be a mature born-again and practicing Christian.
Responsibilities:
1. Supervise the staff in the department and counsellor trainees who carry out counselling practicum within the University and under the Counselling Department.
2. Conduct group counselling sessions for individuals who may be working through similar challenges.
3. Initiate and effect guidance and counselling opportunities as the need may arise.
4. Provide learning opportunities to members of the University community through talks, seminars, workshops, and public discussions on issues that concern their mental, emotional, relational, and overall well-being.
5. Build up, maintain and continually update the information and resource base within the Counselling Department and Office: books, pamphlets, audio and audio-visual resources.
6. Endeavour to continually upgrade personal knowledge of counselling and practical skills and expertise in counselling through personal study, mentoring and peer relationships, attendance in workshops and seminars and further formal training.
7. Contribute to the Administrative management of the University through attendance and participation in DOSA/F&A Division Management meetings.
8. Represent the University in any matters concerning counselling: mental, emotional, relational, and overall well-being.
9. Coordinate counselling outreach programs.
10. Plan, organize and implement the counselling outreach programs.
11. Establish partnership and maintain good relationships.
12. Mobilize and encourage participation of other stakeholders.
13. Establish and oversee addiction support programs.
14. Any other official duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.
