Job Description

Located in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale and Gulu, the candidate (s) shall work closely with the Facilities Manager to serve priesthood leaders by caring for meetinghouses and other Church properties. The incumbent in this position maintains a log of purchased, supplied, and used supplies. The candidate must know and perform the FM group work order process. He/ she may assist contractor supervision and reporting skill level and ability. The successful candidate shall undertake basic upkeep and light repairs and fix broken appliances/ equipment; maintenance to interior and exterior of assigned area including painting, carpentry, grounds, and new equipment/furniture installation. This position will also assist in the prevention of building deterioration and maximize building life through judicious application of operations and maintenance process and standards, and all other work assigned by the Facilities Manager (FM).

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor painting, roof repair, minor plumbing, generator maintenance, tile, lawn, tree, bush sprinkler maintenance, and electrical and electronic assistance – supports member care including supplies, training, and equipment care.
  • May perform custodial duties to keep meetinghouse and grounds clean and orderly as well as work planning, demonstrates purchasing skills, project monitoring, inspection method standards, reporting work and workplace safety
  • Repair locks, hinges, and wall covering, motors, engines, and ground care equipment
  • Responsible for safety during work, including the reporting hazards, both inside and outside the building, to the facilities manager
  • Attend meetings when assigned by the facilities manager and attends training sessions to upgrade technical skills
  • Supervise/ monitors contractors and vendors and ensures that work services meet established qualifications
  • Performs other duties as assigned the Facilities Manager.

Qualifications

  • Must be worthy to hold a current temple recommend
  • A Diploma in building construction/ electrical, or related field with three years working experience in facilities maintenance, or a certificate in building construction with four years work experience in facilities maintenance
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate tactfully with vendors, employees, and leaders.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, stairs and crawl, bend, stoop, squat and reach overhead to perform maintenance functions.
  • Seasoned ability to operate equipment, tools, e.t.c, both manual and automatic, to perform repairs
  • Must be familiar with and able to safely use industrial cleaning chemicals and products
  • Must have basic knowledge in the use of computers. Must understand and be able to use MS Office application, specific software’s web-based programs, internet services and wireless communications
  • Ability to drive will be an added advantage

Preferred:

  • One year of trade school or two years of apprenticeship training in HVAC, electrical mechanical and/or plumbing
