About the job

About Evidence Action

At Evidence Action, we deliver data-driven interventions that transform lives at an unprecedented scale. We identify neglected global health issues and deploy proven solutions, forging healthier futures for generations.

Our model operationalizes leading academic research (including from Nobel-winning economists). We measure progress and outcomes at every stage to ensure we're making a real impact for people living in poverty and suffering from preventable or treatable health issues. Operating across 9 countries, our team of 800+ has reached over 500 million people, working closely with governments to scale these interventions.

Our Deworm the World program has delivered over 2 billion treatments, significantly reducing worm prevalence and generating more than $23 billion in lifetime productivity gains.

Through Safe Water Now, we've saved the lives of over 15,000 children.

Our Accelerator explores untapped opportunities in global health, testing low-cost interventions with the greatest potential to save and improve lives.

At Evidence Action, your colleagues are your greatest asset. You'll partner with high-caliber colleagues in an environment blending innovation, autonomy, and teamwork. Our team excels in disruptive thinking and believes in rolling up our sleeves to get things done. If you're looking to work flexibly and with purpose, join a team that delivers measurable change for millions.

The Role

You will oversee data systems and analytics for Evidence Action's new In-Line Chlorination Innovation Team, under the Safe Water Now Program. Evidence Action's Safe Water Now program provides access to safe drinking water across Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and India through water chlorination. Backed by rigorous research showing chlorination can reduce child mortality by more than 20%, safe water is one of the most cost-effective health interventions globally.

The program's newest intervention, In-Line Chlorination (ILC), automatically treats water as it flows through piped systems, requiring less behavior change from end users than existing solutions. As ILC scales up, core questions remain about how to optimize device performance, reduce operational costs, and strengthen community engagement. Answering these questions well will shape whether ILC can become a scalable, cost-effective model reaching millions more people. Evidence Action is investing in a dedicated Innovation team to find those answers.

This team relies on accurate field data to make decisions about which innovations work and which don't. Your job is to make sure that data is trustworthy. You will conduct independent spot-checks at pilot sites, comparing your readings against data collected by field technicians, identifying discrepancies, and flagging patterns that suggest measurement problems. Reporting to the Senior Associate, Innovation and data Integration you will be based in Mbale, Uganda with extensive travel to field sites.

Responsibilities

Data Collection and Verification: Collect data from the field across pilot sites to understand infrastructure, device performance, and community acceptance

  • Track core performance indicators for the program overall, ensuring all data is accurately recorded, verified, and submitted according to standardized measurement protocols
  • Monitor pilot sites for operational irregularities and flag anomalies for investigation
  • Assist in designing simple data collection tools or dashboards to streamline pilot monitoring and reporting

Data management and Coordination: Translate findings into clear, actionable outputs for the Innovation team

  • Ensure clean, organized, and reliable datasets for all innovation pilots
  • Perform basic data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, or signals that inform pilot outcomes
  • Communicate findings clearly to Innovation team members and other stakeholders, ensuring data-driven recommendations are actionable

Key Performance Indicators

Quality and Completeness of Data: You will be assessed on how reliably and accurately you collect, clean, and submit pilot data

Timeliness of Insights: You will be assessed on how many sites you are able to support and whether you can promptly collect the requested data

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Monitoring & Evaluation, Public Health, or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in field-based data collection, monitoring, or applied research
  • Experience with designing data collection tools, surveys, or dashboards and implementing them in field settings
  • Proficiency with data cleaning, analysis, and visualization tools (Excel, Google Sheets)
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high data quality standards
  • Ability to work independently in field environments, often away from central offices or existing MLE structures
  • Comfortable handling ambiguity and rapid iterations of pilots, adapting data collection to evolving protocols
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills to translate data into actionable insights
  • Fluency in English (local language added advantage)
  • Motorcycle riding license
  • Willingness to be based in Mbale, Uganda with regular travel to field sites
