Devex Talent Solutions (DTS) is exclusively retained by Feed the Children to search for the Director of International Foundations, Organizations and Institutions role.

Location:
This is a fully remote role. Ideal candidates will be based in one of the following locations: Brussels, London, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, or Uganda.

Position Summary:
The Director of International Foundations, Organizations and Institutions plays a critical leadership role in growing the organization’s portfolio of foundations and institutional funding from donors such as FCDO, EU, and other global/international public and private sources. This position leads strategy and execution of high-quality proposal development, donor engagement, and market positioning to support global programming priorities. The Director will report to the SVP, Strategic Partnerships and Individual Giving and lead a proposal development and coordination team, collaborate closely with technical experts, country offices, and senior leadership to secure sustainable funding aligned with Feed the Children’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead and implement Feed the Children’s global business development strategy for foundation and institutional funding, primarily for entities outside of the United States.
  • Create and manage comprehensive annual business plans to meet or exceed goals that include budgets, timelines, activities, and metrics, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned.
  • Monitor donor trends and funding landscapes across humanitarian and development sectors.
  • Strengthen country and regional office capacity in donor engagement and positioning.

Donor Engagement & Positioning

  • Develop a pipeline of prospective donors, cultivate relationships, position Feed the Children for priority opportunities and oversee a portfolio of global foundation, organization and institutional partnerships to grow revenue in support of Feed the Children’s global mission and programs.
  • Represent the organization at donor briefings, networking events, and strategic partnerships forums.
  • Guide pre-positioning plans for major bids including relationship mapping, thought leadership, and marketing collateral.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to engage board and executive leadership to cultivate and steward top donor relationships and engage in key negotiations.

Proposal Management

  • Oversee the proposal lifecycle including opportunity analysis, team formation, budgeting, writing, review, and submission.
  • Serve as lead strategist or capture lead on priority bids.
  • Ensure all proposals meet donor requirements, technical standards, and are compliant with organizational policies.
  • Ensure all interactions with donors are tracked in the CRM to maintain clear, up-to-date records of the partnership status and activities.

Team Leadership

  • May manage a small team of business development professionals and short-term consultants.
  • Build internal systems and tools for opportunity tracking, proposal quality, and donor intelligence.
  • Support staff capacity building in business development best practices across country teams.
  • Partner with international program teams to ensure funding strategies reflect ground-level priorities and realities.
  • Collaborate with the US Corporate Partnership team and Director, US Foundations, Organizations and Institutions to develop business development materials, proposals, grant tracking and reports.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Development

  • Develop and maintain a network of partner organizations and consultants for potential consortia.
  • Lead negotiations of teaming agreements and support strategic partnerships aligned with program goals.

Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in International Development, Public Administration, Business, or a related field, preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in business development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role for an international NGO.
  • Proven success leading complex proposals and securing funds (>$5M) from major institutional donors (e.g., FCDO, EU, UN).
  • Strong knowledge of development and humanitarian programming across sectors (e.g., WASH, livelihoods, nutrition, education).
  • Demonstrated experience in donor engagement, partner negotiations, and capture planning.
  • Excellent project management, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in multicultural and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 25%
