Job Purpose
ADD is looking for a Head of Transformative Partnerships and Influencing to lead on nurturing and expanding relationships with institutional funders and partners so that more resources and opportunities can flow to disability justice movements in Africa and Asia.

This is a new role that will lead both our institutional fundraising and influencing work. This role will be responsible for raising significant funds from a range of institutional funders. This role will also lead on the development of a new influencing strategy to inspire funders and organisations in the disability and development sector, to increase funding for disability justice and to fund organisations led by people with disabilities directly.

Finally, this role will also ensure excellent stewardship of our existing strategic investments and partnerships.

ADD is a participatory grant-maker for disability justice. Our vision is for a world in which ableism no longer exists, and disabled people can fully participate in society. Our mission is to strengthen disability rights activists and organisations through resourcing, and leadership skills.
Our work is rooted in supporting disability rights activists and organisations in Africa and Asia to realise the changes they want to see. We are transforming our organisation and getting back to our roots by sharing more power and resources directly with them. Over the next ten years, we have committed to providing £25 million funding directly to disability justice activists and movements. Crucially, we will also give disability justice activists greater decision-making power on who should receive funding and how funding should be spent.

Why are we recruiting this role?
ADD is transforming from a traditional INGO operating model to become a participatory grantmaker for disability justice. We have a goal to provide £25 million long-term unrestricted grants to disability justice activists and organisations over the next ten years. Our new ‘Fundseeking’ Strategy outlines how we will raise the money to do this. This is not a usual fundraising strategy. It decentres ADD’s own growth and instead focuses on using our position and proximity to wealth with intention in order to channel more resources to disability justice movements that are less able to access them.

A key aspect of the ‘Fundseeking’ strategy is to cultivate partnerships with progressive funders who can provide the flexible resources that disability justice movements need and that allow ADD to become the grant-maker we aspire to be. The first two years of this strategy have successfully raised £3 million in unrestricted funding from funders who share our vision. We are now looking for a Head of Transformative Partnerships and Influencing to steward relationships with our newest funders and identify other funders that could come on board to support our work.
Another key aspect of our work is to influence fairer funding for disability justice. This role will play a leading role in developing and implementing an influencing strategy that will aim to; i) increase the profile of disability justice as an important human rights issue globally ii) amplify the work and voices of disability justice activists, organisations and movements iii) influence funders and partners to allocate more funding to disability justice and iv) Influence more direct funding for activists, organisations and movements led be people with disabilities in the countries where we work.

Key Responsibilities
1. Build relationships with like-minded funders and partners
a. Identify and cultivate relationships with a pipeline of prospective funders and support the Senior Leadership Team to deepen relationships that they hold
b. Steward high-quality relationships with existing strategic funders ensuring that they are kept up date with and engaged in the rollout of our new global strategic framework
c. Build relationships with other partners such as disability and development organisations and participatory grantmakers to identify opportunities for collaboration and influencing
d. Attend and network at key sector events and conferences to make new connections with funders and partners

2. Implement and evolve the ‘Fundseeking’ Strategy to meet annual income targets
a. Deliver on the goals and objectives set out in our ‘Fundseeking’ Strategy
b. Work with Regional Directors to develop context specific ‘Fundseeking’ strategies and plans for Africa and Asia
c. Work with the Head of Communications to produce fundraising communications materials to engage funders and update our existing case for support on a regular basis
d. Write excellent, convincing proposals for funding
e. Maintain an institutional funding pipeline and update income projections on a quarterly basis
f. Coach and support other staff with Fundseeking where appropriate
g. Regularly research and stay up-to-date with donor and funding trends in international development, including flexible and participatory funding

3. Develop and implement an influencing strategy for fairer funding for disability justice
a. Lead on the development and implementation of an influencing strategy
b. Identify and organise online and in-person events for funders and partners to further the objectives of our influencing strategy
c. Secure opportunities to run side events and sessions at global events and conferences and lead on the successful delivery of such events
d. Work closely with the Head of Communications to identify media opportunities (e.g. articles in sector publications, podcast appearances, speaking opportunities in broadcast media etc.) on topics that our central to our new strategy such as; disability justice, INGO transformation and participatory grant-making

4. Oversee effective stewardship of strategic investments
a. Coordinate the grant management of strategic grants that support our work in both Africa and Asia
b. Develop high quality, timely reports and communications for strategic funders to demonstrate the transformational impact of unrestricted funding
c. Work closely with Global Learning & Impact Lead and Regional Teams to ensure that learning from our participatory grantmaking and new approach is captured and used to inform our influencing strategy, document the efficacy of unrestricted funding and improve our grantmaking over time.

5. Line Manage an Institutional Funding Manager
a. Line-manage and support an Institutional Funding Manager with day-to-day tasks whilst supporting wellbeing and a healthy work-life balance
b. Support the professional growth and development of the Institutional Funding Manager through performance management and professional development support

6. Collaborate effectively with global staff
a. Work closely with the Global Learning and Impact Lead and the Head of Communications and Individual Giving to ensure that learning, communications, advocacy and fundraising are coordinated and supporting each other to achieve team objectives
b. Participate in a peer network with other staff across the organisation

7. Support with organisational processes and adhoc tasks
a. Input into the development of strategic plans and budgets on a quarterly and annual basis
b. Participate in quarterly review processes to monitor progress against strategic plans
c. Adhoc support to Director of Funding, Communications and Transformative Partnerships as required

Safeguarding.
We are committed to ensure we are a safe organisation, delivering safe programmes that ensure we do no harm to people we work with. Our processes ensure all posts are graded, based on interaction with children and vulnerable adults. This post is a Level 1 post. See outline of all levels below:
• Level 1 - HQ based, no real direct access to children/vulnerable adults
• Level 2 - a travelling role, possible access to children/vulnerable adults but unlikely to be alone
• Level 3 - regular access to children/vulnerable adults including on their own, or lead responsibility for safeguarding within office/location

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, this role like all at ADD, will also have specific responsibilities relating to safeguarding:

• Ensure familiarity, and compliance with, ADD’s child and vulnerable adult safeguarding policy and undertake training as required. In particular:
o Contribute to creating and maintaining an environment (including within ADD) that prevents safeguarding violations and promotes the implementation of ADD’s policy;
o Report any concerns or suspicions regarding safeguarding violations by an ADD staff member or associated personnel to the appropriate staff member.

Person specification
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about disability justice and disrupting traditional funding approaches. It would be a great opportunity for someone interested in transformation in the International Development sector with a commitment to shifting power and resources to organisations led by people with disabilities. We are looking for someone who can boldly challenge power asymmetries in the funding system and help build mutually beneficial partnerships with a wide range of people. The successful candidate will have strong influencing skills and be able to inspire people to understand the importance of disability justice and participatory grantmaking. You must also demonstrate a passion for ADD’s mission and a demonstrable commitment to the Social and Human Rights Models of Disability.

Specific things we would like you to have are:
• Extensive experience in relationship-based fundraising and building meaningful relationships with funders and partners
• Extensive experience of developing and delivering influencing and/or advocacy strategies
• Excellent influencing skills
• Excellent public speaking and networking skills
• A strong understanding of flexible funding and its benefits
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills
• Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to translate ideas into strategy
• A strong sense of initiative and self-motivation
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing organisational needs
• Ability to build relationships with people from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
• Knowledge of funding for disability would be advantageous
• Willingness to work remotely and travel as required
