Psychosocial Counselor-Peer to Peer (Child Protection) DESCRIPTIONHello Hello! Alight is recruiting Psychosocial Counsellor for our programs in Uganda to be based at various fieldsites of (Kyangwali, Kyaka II, Oruchinga, and Rwamwanja). You’re interested in joining us? Reporting to the Senior/ Clinical Psychologist , the Psychosocial Counselor Peer to peer (Child protection) will be responsible for promoting psychological and mental health recovery with refugee and host community children and young people in line with Inter-Agency Standard Committee guidelines. Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for conducting assessment, formulating treatment plans, planning for activity implementation and monitoring, capacity building of staff and community-based structures on Psychosocial support (PSS) and coordination with other MHPSS partners and colleagues within in provision of quality PSS services for the children, young people and their families while ensuring proper documentation and reporting. He/she will work closely with other sub-sectors like SGBV, legal, community-based protection services and the community based structures including Child Friendly Space Facilitators, school clubs and peer to peer support groups’ leaders at the community level to ensure comprehensive and quality PSS is provided to children experiencing psychological and mental health challenges.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide comprehensive psychosocial counseling to children, young people and their families with MHPSS challenges using different models like IPT-G, TRW, NET, CBT and other approaches.
• Develop activity-based work plan to guide effective and efficient implementation of planned PSS activities.
• Support in capacity building of staff and community-based structures on PSS including PFA to promote quality provision of PSS services.
• Monitor regular PSS activities being conducted by community-based structures like CPCs, CFS facilitators, peer to peer support groups and school clubs and provide additional technical support.
• Collaborate closely with other MHPSS partners and other sub-sector leads within to strengthen referral and timely response.
• Ensure PSS services is mainstream across child protection strategic interventions like case management, alternative care, etc. and across other sub-sectors.
• Provide psycho-education sessions for clients, their families and community members on a regular basis and as deemed necessary using evidence-based information.
• Efficiently and effectively conduct follow up assessment sessions at homes and schools.
• Carry out awareness raising activities on PSS issues with children, young people and other community members for timely reporting of children experiencing MHPSS challenges.
• Ensure timely and proper documentation (filing, case studies, etc.), information management and reporting on PSS activities is done.
• Participate in collaboration and coordination meetings to share information on Alight’s PSS intervention with children and young people.
• Ensure Alight’s Child Protection Policy and others are observed and demonstrated by the community-based structures working with children in PSS activities like in the Child Friendly Space.
Planning:
• Participate in the development & submission of the Quarterly work plans, monthly work plans, weekly action plans and any other reports timely.
• Quality Management:
• Provide avenues and channels (formal and informal) that encourage client feedback processes to assess quality of care and service access issues.
Community empowerment and outreaches:
• Develop and implement programs which promote resilience and strengthen positive coping mechanisms within the community, establishment of peer networks, psychosocial support, and social integration.
• Identify and strengthen Community structures through engaging community leaders, camp management and other stakeholders to ensure that the survivors receive adequate support at the community level.
• Support the CP/MHPSS teams in dissemination of relevant information during the Community sensitization forums and meetings.
• Help establish and strengthen community-based referral pathway among various services for children’s survivors of SGBV and MHPSS clients, including monitoring the quality of the services provided.

Professional care and growth:
• Engage in quality self-care through supervision, debriefings, and other shared and or individual preferences.
• Actively participate in Continuous Learning Sessions (CLS) with the MHPSS/CP team and extend knowledge to assistants, case workers and community structures.
• Any other duties as assigned by the line supervisor like attending protection and or working group meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
• A Bachelor’s degree in social work, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, Adult and Community Education and Development studies.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in working on Child Protection and MHPSS issues with an INGO.
• Must be fluent in written and spoken English. Language skills of populations ARC serves and surrounding host communities extremely beneficial (e.g. Kiswahili, Luo, Nuer, Kinyarwanda, Somali, etc.)
• Motorbike riding experience and permit preferable

• High level of self-drive, discipline and desire to achieve;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, hit deadlines, and produce high-quality outputs.
