Job Purpose:

To manage and execute the company’s accounting and financial functions with a focus on cost accounting, payroll, statutory compliance, management reporting, and payment processing. The Accountant will play a key role in ensuring effective internal controls and financial accuracy to support operational efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cost Accounting

  • Analyze and monitor production costs, material usage, and overhead allocation.
  • Conduct monthly cost variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and maintain cost standards for all products and processes.
  • Support inventory valuation and control processes.

2. Management Reporting

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Provide budget performance analysis and forecasts.
  • Support departmental heads with financial data for planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor KPIs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

3. Payroll Accounting

  • Prepare, process, and reconcile payroll for all employees.
  • Ensure accurate computation of salaries, benefits, deductions, and statutory contributions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll records.
  • Liaise with HR to ensure alignment with contracts and labor laws.

4. Internal Controls

  • Enforce financial and operational controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
  • Participate in periodic audits and follow up on audit recommendations.
  • Identify risks and recommend improvements to control processes.

5. Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure timely filing and payment of statutory obligations including PAYE, NSSF, VAT, WHT, and URA returns.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulators as required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records as per regulatory requirements.

6. Payment Processing

  • Review and process supplier and service provider invoices.
  • Prepare and execute payment runs (bank transfers, cheques, mobile money).
  • Reconcile supplier accounts and manage payment cycles.
  • Monitor cash flow and forecast payment obligations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA (U) or ACCA certification (part or fully qualified).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting and payroll systems.
  • Familiarity with Ugandan tax laws and statutory regulations.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks, or ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
