About This Role
The major role of the project Assistant is to plan, administer, coordinate and monitor all community level sponsorship and program activities, in line with the set performance targets. He /She will ensure timely correspondence between the children and sponsors and will ensure that children and families are mobilized to participate in both sponsorship and program interventions. He/ She will work with different community structures (PEC, CYEC), Partners and community leadership to ensure quality service delivery to the beneficiaries.
Required Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in social work and social administration, Education, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Adult and Community Education, Project Management, and any other relevant course.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience implementing and/or managing community led programs for children 0-24 years in Development settings.
- Excellent writing and facilitation skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Power Point.
- Good knowledge in Kobo collect tool, Com Care, DHIS-2 applications and any other programming software applications.
- Strong skills in teamwork and networking.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills in multi-cultural contexts.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle.
- Knowledge/ experience with the local context of the project locations and willingness to work in remote areas is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in the local language (Lusamia) is required.
Primary Responsibilities.
The Project Assistant will undertake the following roles and responsibilities:
Sponsorship Management
- Conducts home visits to provide support and guidance, on issues related to child welfare and Household economic empowerment.
- Facilitate Sponsorship and safety net awareness in the Communities.
- Work with Community Volunteers and project staff to ensure that enrolled children and families participate and benefit from the sectoral programs and projects.
- Support the design of Community growth plan, enrollment process of children and monitoring availability of the children.
- Ensures that a sponsor relation is carried out in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with ChildFund International policy.
- Facilitate timely child correspondences, delivery and response to Sponsor queries.
- Ensures that Community Volunteers (including CYEC and PEC) are trained in and fully understand internal operational policies and procedures.
- A good understanding, appreciation and adherence to child protection issues/ policies.
- Knowledge and skills in engaging children and youth in activities that promote their development.
- Coordinate sponsor visits and provide all necessary information required for a successful visit.
- Mobilize and sensitize parents and community members to participate in Sponsorship program
Program management and development
- Work with Senior Coordinator Field, Partners and community leadership to ensure quality service delivery to the beneficiaries.
- Manage Community Assets entrusted to you on behalf of the PEC and CYEC.
- Carry out needs assessment and communicate any development initiatives to the Area.
- Mentor Community Volunteer and Sectoral Committees to effectively monitor implementation of Programs and Projects.
- Ensuring that Parents, Community members, Children and Youths actively participate in project review and planning meetings.
- Visiting families and communities with unique experiences/problems and jointly working with them to find lasting solutions.
- Closely work with and support project stakeholders including parents, caregivers, and community leaders to support implementation of program activities.
- Support in organizing events and training for parents, Care givers, and Community leaders.
- Manager project funds in compliance with ChildFund’s standards.
- Any other role as delegated by the supervisor
Capacity Building and Development
- Identify capacity gaps among CMs, PEC and CYEC and ensure such gaps are plugged in through training, coaching and mentorship
- Organizing and supporting community periodic committee elections.
- To maintain local leadership participation in project activities.
Required Competencies
- Demonstrable aptitude for teamwork.
- High level of interpersonal skills.
- Coordination skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience implementing programs in development contexts.
- Experience working on humanitarian projects.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with ability to network and negotiate with partners and government bodies.
- Strong facilitation and capacity building skills
- Ability to ride motorcycles while conducting field activities.
