On behalf of our client in the Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda, we are looking for skilled and competent Business Development Officer-Brokerage to work in Kampala.

Reporting to: Head of Marketing and Business Development
Department: Business Development – Department
Purpose and Description of the role
Responsible for driving growth in brokerage business by increasing trading volumes, expanding the client base through SCD account acquisition, and enhancing overall market activity. The role also ensures efficient trade execution, high-quality client service, and active participation in market development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Brokerage Growth & Business Development
- Drive growth in brokerage volumes through client acquisition and retention strategies
- Increase the number of Securities Central Depository (SCD) accounts opened
- Develop and maintain relationships with individual and institutional clients
- Establish and strengthen partnerships with regional brokerage firms
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote equities and bonds trading
- Support and execute marketing initiatives to enhance brokerage activity
2. Trading Operations
- Maintain and update the brokerage order book on a daily basis
- Execute client buy/sell orders accurately and in a timely manner
- Post transactions on the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) trading platform
- Monitor market trends and support increased trading activity
- Ensure compliance with trading regulations, including timely insider trading notifications
3. Client Service & Relationship Management
- Onboard clients by capturing data into the USE CSD system and issuing SCD numbers
- Communicate account confirmations and follow up to ensure client satisfaction
- Prepare and issue transaction receipts and portfolio statements
- Conduct periodic client data updates (at least semi-annually)
- Respond promptly to client inquiries and maintain strong relationships
4. Research & Market Intelligence
- Prepare and share equities research insights on USE-listed companies
- Disseminate public notices and market updates to clients and shareholders
- Participate in AGMs, market activations, and industry engagements
- Support investor education initiatives in collaboration with regulators and industry bodies
Requirements
Qualifications required:
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university (Business, Finance, Economics, or related field)
- 3 years’ general experience
- Relevant experience in brokerage, financial markets, or business development is an added advantage
Key Competences
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Results-oriented with strong business development skills
- Analytical and market awareness capability
- Good negotiation and relationship management skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and trading systems
ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) EXPECTATION
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to, implementation of, and adoption of Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Sanctions-related policies, procedures, and process requirements within Old Mutual and its subsidiaries. This includes execution of customer due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards, conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence, and maintaining data quality. Additionally, the role involves identifying and monitoring potential AML, Sanctions, or Compliance breaches and unusual activities, and escalating these concerns to the Risk and Compliance Office for further action.
