The Communications Volunteer will support the Women’s Situation Room (WSR) Uganda’s internal and external communication efforts to enhance visibility, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement. The volunteer will assist in developing and disseminating content that highlights WSR’s work in promoting women’s participation in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and democratic processes.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns aligned with WSR’s mission.
- Draft, edit, and publish content for WSR platforms, including social media, newsletters, reports, and the website.
- Capture and document WSR activities through photography, videography, and storytelling.
- Support media engagement efforts, including drafting press releases, media advisories, and maintaining a media contacts database.
- Monitor media coverage related to WSR’s focus areas and prepare regular summaries.
- Contribute to the creation of IEC materials (brochures, flyers, fact sheets) and multimedia content.
- Support live coverage of events (e.g., tweets, live blogging, video updates).
- Archive and organize communication materials and records.
- Assist in measuring the impact of communication efforts using analytics tools.
- Perform other communication-related tasks as required.
Core Competences
- Availability to volunteer full-time for the agreed duration.
- Commitment to WSR Uganda’s mission and values, especially regarding peace, women’s rights, and democratic governance.
- Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to take initiative.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic digital marketing tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Spark).
- Experience in photography/videography and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere) is an added advantage.
- Prior experience in communications, media, or advocacy work (including internships or volunteering) is desirable.
