Our multifaceted approach encompasses policy and regulatory reform, capacity building, financial credit provision, and data-based market intelligence development. Leveraging our technical expertise and entrepreneurial innovation, we enhance the fertilizer and agribusiness value chain by connecting African Hub Agro-dealers and Smallholder Farmers with global resources, technologies, and financing providers.

AFAP is looking for qualified Cooperative Credit Advisors. Each of the Cooperative Credit Advisors will support farmer cooperatives in Central, Western, Eastern, and Northern Uganda in accessing agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and seeds. The Advisor will guide members through the process, coordinate with input suppliers, support monitoring and recovery, and lead demand creation activities to promote adoption and improved productivity.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Co-operative and Farmer Group Credit Support

  • Sensitize cooperative leadership and farmer groups on available credit options, terms and conditions.
  • Track input usage and follow up with repayment progress as per supplier agreements.
  • Portfolio management and growth.
  • Submit regular reports on sales data, credit performance and field activities.
  • Assist cooperative leadership, Farmer groups and members with knowledge on financial management to minimize defaults.
  • Provide guidance on input selection based on crop plans and land size.

2. Credit monitoring and reporting

  • With the support of the Credit and Risk management officer, evaluate co-operatives and farmer group creditworthiness and support business growth by ensuring record keeping on all transactions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date credit files.
  • Identify and report credit risk concerns to the Credit and Risk Management Officer.

3. Input and Output Supplier Coordination

  • Liaise with approved suppliers to ensure quality and timely delivery of inputs.
  • Support logistics and documentation for input distribution.
  • Address supplier-related issues as they arise.
  • Coordinating produce off-taking and providing Market Linkages

4. Demand Creation & Farmer Engagement

Organize and facilitate activities to stimulate input and demand output, including:

  • Field demonstrations
  • Farmer training sessions
  • Farmers mobilization
  • Promotional events on input and output markets
  • Soil testing and analysis in collaboration with the Agronomist
  • Collaborate with agronomists, suppliers, cooperative leaders and farmer groups to drive input adoption.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong communication and relationship skills
  • Credit and risk management
  • Community mobilization and training capabilities
  • Report writing and basic data management
  • High integrity and professionalism
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Rural Finance or a related field. Additional qualifications are an added advantage.
  • At least 6 months –1 year of relevant experience in agriculture-related work, cooperative development, or rural finance.
  • Strong understanding of farming cycles and input use in Ugandan agricultural systems.
  • Prior experience working with cooperatives or farmer organizations is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and a relevant local language.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit is preferred.
