Company:

Sagana is a global impact investing advisory firm working to unleash the potential of people, capital, and business to create a better future for all. We use our impact investing expertise to find, invest in and grow purpose-driven companies that combine attractive financial returns with positive social and environmental impact. Our global experience lets us see the bigger picture and our focus on specific sectors allows us to deeply understand the areas we operate in. To learn more about how we think, what we believe and what sets us apart, check out our video: Sagana - Unleashing Potential

Opportunity:

We are hiring an ambitious and entrepreneurial investment professional to join our pro-active, hands-on investment team at Sagana. You will play a critical role in sourcing, evaluating, and supporting early-stage businesses across Africa that offer scalable solutions to some of the continent’s most pressing challenges—while delivering strong financial returns and measurable impact.

As an Investment Manager, you will be responsible for proactively building and managing a pipeline of high-potential opportunities. This includes originating and sourcing deals, conducting market landscaping, leading due diligence processes, and driving execution across Seed to Series A/B stage investments. You will focus on sectors such as food and agriculture, access to finance, clean and distributed energy, circular economy and waste innovation, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.

You’ll also take a highly engaged role in portfolio management—working directly with founders and leadership teams to help shape business strategy, strengthen operations, support capital raises, and drive impact performance.

We’re looking for someone who is a pro-active critical thinker, hungry to learn, thrives in fast-moving environments, and is excited by the challenge of building an exceptional, mission-aligned portfolio from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of inclusive and sustainable business in Africa through investing that balances strong financial returns with meaningful social and environmental impact.

We are actively creating a workplace where authentic communication, collaboration and inclusion enable people to become their best selves both personally and professionally while having a career with purpose and impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively source and evaluate early-stage investment opportunities across sectors such as food and agriculture, access to finance, clean energy, circular economy, healthcare, and digital infrastructure
  • Actively contribute to building a strong deal pipeline by engaging with accelerators, incubators, founders, investors, and other ecosystem players across Africa
  • Conduct initial screens and execute the due diligence process, including commercial, operational, financial, and impact analysis
  • Prepare investment materials and contribute to internal investment committee discussions and recommendations
  • Assist in the structuring and execution of investments using a range of instruments, including equity and flexible capital solutions
  • Build relationships with founders and support ongoing engagement with portfolio companies
  • Take an active, hands-on role in portfolio management, supporting companies with business strategy, operations, fundraising, and impact measurement
  • Lead and contribute to capacity building efforts for portfolio companies, providing strategic and operational guidance to help them grow and strengthen their foundations for scale and future investment
  • Identify and recommend, when necessary, partners and resources to support portfolio needs in areas such as talent, finance, governance, and sales
  • Monitor financial and impact performance across the portfolio and contribute to internal and external reporting
  • Contribute to market landscaping and ecosystem research to inform sourcing and strategic direction
  • Represent Sagana in ecosystem events, networking opportunities, and sector convenings, with guidance from senior team members

Skills and Experience:

  • Ideally 2–3 years of relevant experience in venture capital, private equity, impact investing, or business building/consulting, ideally with exposure to early-stage companies in Africa
  • Demonstrated interest and early track record in sourcing, evaluating, and supporting investments, ideally at the Seed to Series A/B stage
  • Familiarity with one or more relevant sectors such as food and agriculture, access to finance, clean energy, circular economy, healthcare, or digital infrastructure
  • Some experience working with or supporting early-stage businesses on strategic or operational challenges
  • Growing network and understanding of the African startup and investment landscape; proactive about building relationships in the ecosystem
  • Highly motivated, resourceful, pro-active, critical thinker and entrepreneurial—able to take initiative, learn quickly, and contribute to a lean, fast-paced team
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate across cultures and stakeholder groups
  • Excellent communication skills—able to contribute to clear, compelling analysis and recommendations
  • Fluent in English; French or other African languages are a plus
  • Deep personal alignment with Sagana’s purpose-driven approach and commitment to high-quality execution
  • Experience working with global multi-cultural teams across various time-zones.
