Soroti University is a Public University in Uganda located in Soroti City, Eastern Uganda Seven (7) kilometres along Soroti-Moroto Road. The University Secretary hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant posts listed below that exist in the University:

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To teach, supervise, promote research studies, disseminate research findings, participate in Community Service.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• Master of Medicine in Surgery.
• MBChB or MBBS or BDS.
• At least two (2) years’ teaching experience at the level of Assistant Lecturer in an Institution of Higher Learning or two (2) years of research in a reputable organization or two (2) years of clinical work in Anesthesiology and Critical Care.
• Evidence of research in the relevant field with at least two (2) newly recognized publications within the last five years in peer reviewed journals or a book or book chapters with ISBN Numbers.
• Must be registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council with a valid practicing license.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To prepare lectures and conduct lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students using innovative approaches which include e- learning, to the satisfaction of the University’s Quality Assurance standards.
• Guide and advise students on their academic performance and attend to their queries on academic issues.
• To participate in and supervise Laboratory practicals.
• To conduct research with peers in areas of his/her specialization among the present communities and disseminate the research findings.
• To supervise and mentor students undertaking research in the present community.
• To organize, attend and conduct seminars and relevant trainings.
• To set tests, examinations and course work according to University standards and policies.
• To mark tests and examinations scripts and compile results according to approved grading standards of the University.
• To write and submit fundable research proposals to the government and other funding agencies.

KEY OUTPUTS

• Lecture plans prepared and Lectures delivered according to the timetable.
• Academic guidance and counselling provided to the students.
• Laboratory practical supervised.
• Research conducted and research findings disseminated/published.
• Students undertaking research mentored and supervised.
• Seminars and trainings organized, attended and conducted
• Tests, examinations and course work set, marked and results compiled.
• Examination results graded and produced on time.
• Fundable research proposals prepared and approved.
